If done properly, is a 1963 SWB C10 on 1976 Blazer 4WD frame do-able?
I'm looking at someone else's stalled project. If what they did was a bad idea to begin with, then I'll just walk away. Advice please.
I realize that it matters how good a job they did but the swap is already done and it's a complete truck. Just needs doors and hood put back on and get it running again. Thanks in advance for the help.

Maybe they just used Blazer axles? That's pretty popular.

About 90% of the time when I look at something like that, the work is far from my standards. So I would end up redoing it all. IMO it is better to do the fabrication necessary to install the 4x4 differentials and such under the original frame rather than try and fit the body to a frame that is different.

When I saw the pics of the truck in question, I called thinking it was a 1963 K10. As soon as he told me it was a frame swap (one that he didn't do), my interest dropped for the reasons Captainfab mentioned - fixing someone else's bad work is a nightmare. When I got off the phone with the guy, I Googled 1976 Blazer wheekbase and found out 106.5". That's 8.5" shorter than a 1963 C10 SWB. It's possible it's just an axle swap and that the current owner thinks it was the whole frame. Even so, I'm gonna pass. Thanks for the expert advice. This is a truly a great forum.

Re: If done properly, is a 1963 SWB C10 on 1976 Blazer 4WD frame do-able?
Before I bought my truck I looked at another `63 that had been converted to 4WD with Blazer axles. It was nicely done but, since I wanted a daily driver, I asked myself "do I really want a vintage truck to use in conditions that need 4WD?" Sure it looks cool. Sure it's badass. But really?
EDIT: Simultaneous posting Luggzy. Good decision to walk on this one. |

Here is the truck in question. Advertised as a 1963 C10 with a 350ci. All parts are supposed to be there. The grille isn't a 1963, but it was someone elses project and I have no idea what has been done. Either it had a 1976 Blazer frame swap or maybe just the axles. Either way, I think he'll take a lot less than the asking price.LINK to CL ad

in the first pic you can definitely see the blazer frame horns and core support mounts...

Maybe it's just an optical issue due to the angle, but it looks like the rear wheel is too far forward in the wheel well.

My bet it is on a newer short bed chassis. Yes the frame horns and core support mounts are there but that bed sure don't look cut down in length to me. Anyway you look at it there is a lot of unknowns and questionable engineering there.

Definitely Not a 63 frame. Looks like alot of work needs to be done just to make the front end fit right. Looks pretty hokey to me. I would pass on that one.

front springs aren't blazer---would have to see it in person for me to make a decision. I would like the sheet metal lol. Like the out building also.
