OldGMJon's "BLACK30" ....

Hey Guys ...

A new project has entered the shop (actually a while back) but we are jumping on it finally !!

A really nice 1964 C-30 Cab/Chassis....and a donor, 80 C-30 for the front and rear suspensions, P/S and hydroboost.

The 64's chassis was extended by another person 2'. So Jon wants the frame brought back to stock length, and another bed installed.

Originally, the 80's flatbed was going to be swapped over, but we thought a new, lighter flatbed may be the answer.

After some searching, Jon may have found a longstep bed that we will modify to work on this truck ...

The day it arrived ...

Nice looking truck.
Did you ever see the photo of the dually with a step bed on the back with a Fleetside front panel and extended width tailgate?

Re: OldGMJon's "BLACK30" ....

Man I'd rock that truck any way it ends up. That truck is sweet! I have seen some utility trucks with a custom saddle type box in between the cab and bed. Usually newer city or county trucks. I bet with some thinking though, you could do some sort of clean custom box to fill the gap between the cab and bed. Almost like the sleeper cab on a semi - just a lot lower profile and not a sleeper. Are you going to lift it and make it a 4x4? or just run the big 20" wheels? Real interested to see this one finished! Real nice start to it for sure.

Yeah, I realize this is a C60 in the picture...I really liked the look of the long stepper for the duel rear wheels. I won't even try to figure what it would cost to make it 4WD and know that is out.
I like my stock C30 wheels, they needed to be drilled out to fit the bigger/later lug/stud size though. A nice flatbed is being considered as well.
I am glad I have John and Rich from American Customs & Classics on this project. Stand-up guys who do quality work plus everything on these C30's are too heavy for this old guy...

Saw and subscribed to your thread...way too few C30's on the board for me. My last one had a flatbed just like yours but I wish it had your rear bumper.
These old duel wheels are pretty solid trucks with a few minor upgrades you can comfortably haul anything, look good doing it and enjoy the feel of old iron on the road.
Built in America when trucks were trucks and not these four door car/trucks with a half-box on the back like little more than an after thought.
Its just like Volkswagens...you couldn't sell me one of those new water cooled ones either.

Here are some pics of the flat bed that Jon scored for $200 !!!!

He came by to check on it, so I mocked up the bed on some lumber, to set the height exactly where he wanted it .....
