Smile Got my hands on some 8" steelies

Just got a set of 15x8 GM steelies for $120 to put on my 1965 GMC C10. Was it a good buy? I've heard they are rare but wanted to clarify.

Depends, if they are disk brake compliant they are more sought after than those that aren't...

Yeah they are. They fit right over my new disk brake conversion kit.

Re: Got my hands on some 8" steelies

I bought a pair in mint condition back in the early 90's and thought I was getting robbed at $35 each. When I converted to 5 lug I gave them away as they were rather common at the time. Had no idea they would become so hard to find in the future. $120 seems like a fair price now, the difficulty is in finding any worth having in the first place.

Good for you!

Re: Got my hands on some 8" steelies

Sounds like a fair price. I've been getting about $75 per wheel on the ones I've sold recently. If you got two you did good...if you got four, you did real good!

Considering how hard they are to find, consider it a very good deal!

I just picked up a set with tires and paid $175. If you look on evilbay, they're outrageous.

Re: Got my hands on some 8" steelies

I found an ad on CL the guy posted the wheels as 15x10 $60.00, but I could see they were not 15x10 but they were 15x8, the guy had no idea. He called me during the drive to look at them and said "sorry they are 15x8" I told him too bad i was hoping for the 15x10 but would he take $40.00 for the pair anyway? Deal 40.00 for two. But the guy had no idea what he had.....just a lucky day.

And I paid $300.00 for my set over here, before getting the tyres removed and getting them blasted and powder coated.

You did very well.

These were mine before, the chrome trims are not great, but I will live with them.

Afterwards

Hello, grizz. Your wheels look great in that bottom picture--it shows them up better. With the chrome trimmies, they look almost like 2 @ 8" and 2@7". But lower pic shows them to be equal width. Have any problem changing a rear, like with a flat?

Keep enjoying that fun project!

I was going to get a set of Rally's off of craigslist for $350 but they were attached to an 82 short frame rolling chassis.

rally wheels are a dime a dozen. they were pretty much standard on all gm 4 wheel drives through the 80's, I probably have 4 sets of them that I wish I could throw away, but it costs money to even do that , the ones we are talking about are the solid steel wheels 15X8 that accept the stock hubcap- I am pretty sure they were only available on the military blazers(?) and that is why they are so rare

I picked up a pair of 4-nub steelies for 100 bucks...just as much to powder coat them, they are the ones to fit Disk brakes. getting harder to find though.
