Question about step side beds

I have a 68 that I'm working on for a customer. He has a step side bed from an early 80's model truck. My question is can you bolt the 68 step side fender up to that bed without a lot of modification? The bedsides look pretty similar to me but wanted to make sure before we buy new fenders. Thanks in advance, this is one of the most informative forums I've seen.

You probably could as the bed sides are both flat, however, I am certain that the bolt holes will not line up. This would require you to weld up and bodywork both the inside and the outside of the bed sides. I actually thought about it for my step side I am putting on my 68 but talked myself out of it after I though about how much bodywork would be involved in making those additional bolt holes go away.

If that's the case he might just have to find himself a new bed

Re: Question about step side beds

Now I've been wrong before a time or two, but I thought the bedsides were the same from 57 through 87. Or was that just the tailgate? Also, welcome from across the river, where is Carrier? I've never been that I can remember and My son played football for a AR school that was in the MPSA and we spent many a Friday night driving through MS back roads at 11 at night trying to get home

South ms bout an hour east of New Orleans. The bedsides look very similar to me but without another to compare to in person it's be hard to pay $500 per fender

Here's a how-to by palf70step on a 73-87 bed conversion.
