Anybody seen a hood like this???

I was cruising google for some C-60 grilles and found a pic of this red truck and another of a suburban (but now i cant find the suburban).

Anyhow, i noticed that the red GMC doesn't have anything in the center of the hood, by where the latch would be. This Hood looks "hollow" in the middle. Is this a certain year of hood or is this a custom modification that somebody has done?

Re: Anybody seen a hood like this???

GMCs were blacked out from the factory on this part of the hood also. The chevys were not. May just all be painted black and unable to see the hood latch.

But I agree with the above comments, it does look like its been modified.

Re: Anybody seen a hood like this???

You can see the latch assembly in the second picture pretty clearly.

If you're talking about the second post, it's a different truck (different plates, different grill and bumper, different mirrors, etc.)

If there's a second picture in the original post, I don't see it (one photo per post).

Ok, so I guess that I have never paid that close of attention to the difference between the GMC and Chevy hoods. The GMC has no vertical bar in the middle and the turn signal lenses are a little more tapered?

And is it just me or does it look like the front of the hood has a little bit more of a different look to it, compared to the Chevy hood?

I think the GMC hood looks a lot better, I'm gonna start looking for one!

Re: Anybody seen a hood like this???

I may have to modify my 64 hood like this. maybe do something different for the latch entirely.

66submarine is right...you can see the latch pretty well in the 2nd picture. Looks good blacked out though.

Re: Anybody seen a hood like this???

Someone posted an old pic from the 60's of this, pointing out how that is the way they came new.
I agree, it gives it a cool look.

Re: Anybody seen a hood like this???

Those are just a stock 62-66 GMC hoods. The center strip was painted black originally on these. I always wondered how GMC ended up with this hood and not Chevy. It was the only single item in the entire styling budget that was more attractive than what Chevy got with all of the styling budget devoted to their product line.

All other GMC changes were made to look "different", not necessarily better.

Re: Anybody seen a hood like this???

the gmc does have vertical bar, it is just painted in those two pics.

here are a couple photos of the original gmc hood paint scheme.

the last 2 photos are from factorystock who posted about them a few years ago.

a lot of people prefer the gmc hood to the chevy due to the cat eye signals and the scoop like center.

** also notice that the correct paint scheme for the gmc around the grille is body color, not white like the chevy; depending on the assembly plant, gmc could also have the black paint behind the grille. first 2 pics are all body color, and second 2 are black/body color.

Re: Anybody seen a hood like this???

The school bus and red '62 have the clear lenses. I thought this was a recent after-market trend...

Was standard on 60-62. In 63 it became standard equipment to have the amber lenses.
