Question My Transmission

I have a TH350 (13 bolt Pan), While doing my rewire in the engine bay, I pulled a electrical plug from the trans. Don't know what year the trans is. Could this be converter lockout ? Did they come in 1971 GMC ? If so how do you wire it. What happens if its not hooked up ? Looking for info. Thanks

Re: My Transmission

It's the torque converter clutch, if you don't use it you will lose the converter lock up function which will cause reduced gas mileage.

Re: My Transmission

Torque convertor lockup on a 71? No, they didn't have locking torque convertors. None of the THM 350s did.

Re: My Transmission

In order to wire it up you will need a kit from B&M. Summit has tem for $190.

Re: My Transmission

Sounds like the plug for transmission controlled spark used as part of CEC system in 71. That would be the only wiring on a factory 71 TH350 installation. Might try the service manual ection 6T (71 and 72) for some more information, I just don't have the time now.

If you can post a picture I might be able to confirm it later for you.

* VIN/Model Decoders
* Power Team Charts (engine/transmission/gear ratio)
* Post Your Pickup SPID Blazer SPID Suburban/Panel SPID
* RTFM
... Read The Factory Manuals... download 'em here

Re: My Transmission

Thank you SS Tim, I think you hit the nail on the head. The picture shows the spot where the wire plugs in.
