smoothie center cap

Here is pic of current wheel. Not sure if it's orginal. But I want to order some smoothie center caps.

Do you all know which one will work? I'm sure multiple different brands.

Thank you for any tips or advice

Re: smoothie center cap

Those wheels have no clips or method to attach smoothie center caps. The original caps for those wheels were retained with small bolts that screw into the holes between the lug holes. You can buy bags of "inside clips" and try to install them so they will hold a smooth center cap. Here's some good reading about adding clips.

Most of the smoothies are chromed steel and they rust fairly easily. I bought a stainless cap for my spare but I'll be darned if I can remember where it came from. I believe I've posted the source before, though. I think it was Hubcap Mike.

Re: smoothie center cap

There are several different styles of trim rings that will work but you'll still need clips or some method to retain the center caps.

Re: smoothie center cap

I will look closer how clips work on current ring. I always assume that the cap had clips made into it.

Re: smoothie center cap

Some of the caps would snap on the lug nuts. If those wheels are form late 80s or 90s trucks that's how they work. They looked like early '80s wheels to me.

Re: smoothie center cap

They actually started in the early 70's, I remember looking at a set at a swap meet in 1977 for my truck. Did not come with any smooth caps.

Re: smoothie center cap

If you are talking about the big smoothie hubcaps that cover the whole wheel, they will fit that wheel.

If you are talking about just a small cap to cover the lug nuts, I have never seen a smooth centercap mounted in that type of 80s fullsize rally wheel, but I have seen guys add clips to mount caps to just about anything. brothers sells a 20pc clip set and, assuming you can find a clip style smooth cap that fits the wheel, you can easily drill and mount the clips. I say go for it!
