Re: GMC & Chevy differences? Just bought a GMC 1500
When you try to sell it you will know. GMC will always sell at a lower price than a Chevrolet.(Given same type of product) GMC does not hold value like a Chevy. Get a NADA price quide and you will will be surprised by the difference. The older the unit the more difference it makes. Very similar to a Cougar vs Mustang: Made on the same line with same engines but value is way different. Mustang will always bring more value. IMHO Larry

I don't agree with this 100 %. It depends on the truck and the condition.

Re: GMC & Chevy differences? Just bought a GMC 1500
I don't either. Around my area GMC's generally get a slightly higher value. I think it's the cool factor. Anyone can own a Chevy but GMC's are rare here.

Re: GMC & Chevy differences? Just bought a GMC 1500
I've not seen any real world evidence that GMCs sell for less than an equal Chevy. NADA is hardly a good authority on what the prices of these trucks go for. According to them theres a lot of 4 to 5 grand trucks around for sale that are worth 10K.

Re: GMC & Chevy differences? Just bought a GMC 1500
Well I'm in the UK and the values here are totally different to where you guys are..
I kinda meant what's the differences other than the obvious names between the chevy and gmc equivalents I'm guessing option/trim levels etc and superficial but interesting things, nothing major or specific particularly otherwise? Where the gmc versions simply just an alternative or where they higher/different spec levels Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: GMC & Chevy differences? Just bought a GMC 1500
Keith is correct emblems are the only difference. I even received a few of those hybrids: Chevy on one side and GMC on the other.

Re: GMC & Chevy differences? Just bought a GMC 1500
The grilles are different and on the 73-74, the core supports are slightly different. The Chevy has the welded intermediate grille brackets and the GMC has the bolt on. Kinda splitting hairs though.

Re: GMC & Chevy differences? Just bought a GMC 1500
Don't quote me on it but I'm pretty sure by the time you get to the square body trucks like yours they are basically the same truck with different emblems.

Re: GMC & Chevy differences? Just bought a GMC 1500
I believe the Vin will show if its made a GMC or Chev.
I've often heard there were less GMCs made then Chevy?, with even less around now,I'd almost use the "rare" word depending on the model/country lol

Re: GMC & Chevy differences? Just bought a GMC 1500
Yes. The first character in the VIN.
https://service.gm.com/dealerworld/v.../vincard74.pdf Model number, too. TC10903 = T = GMC C = 2wd 10 = 1/2 ton 9 = long wheel base 03 = reg cab pickup Quote:
That's why it was so easy to mess up: you'd get in the "zone" after your 300th truck that day and if you weren't specifically paying attention you'd likely put a Chevy emblem on a GMC. The fenders, hoods and rad support/grille were all built up and trimmed out in a separate, remote area of the plant - per the build manifest - and conveyed in sequence to the main line. It wasn't obvious that anything had been screwed up until all those pieces came together on the final line (at which point it became painfully obvious). K

Re: GMC & Chevy differences? Just bought a GMC 1500
GMC's had different door panel & interior trim levels, ext. trim was different, etc. beyond that not a whole lot different.
However, having said that without knowing the actual production numbers for whatever reason finding nice, older GMC stuff is much tougher than comparable Chevy stuff. So while the trucks aren't much different, building a nice GMC from scratch is more costly that building a Chevy truck. So from that standpoint, I value the GMC trucks higher than Chevy only because parts availability is much harder to source. |
