HAVE YOU SEEN ONE OF THESE BEFORE? Spare Tire Caddy
I bought a 69 GMG LWB. This item is located just inside the passenger door below the seat. Looks like all parts are there for it.
If anyone is interested, I will be pulling it off at some point and would sell. The GMC is a parts truck. It has an amazing cab which will be going on my 68 SWB

Re: HAVE YOU SEEN ONE OF THESE BEFORE? Spare Tire Caddy
I think a few co. made them back then , its a complete different world now , most trucks have them at the back license plate , here is a pic of one in my longhorn , has pulleys over to frame rail and back to rear with cables , stand at seat edge with tire iron or socket ratchet and lower it down

Pretty neat deal there. I assume most people think like me, when the spare comes down from under the bed, it usually winds up in the bed. Who wants to lay on their back and fight to get it back up under the bed ...this way would be a lot easier.

How does it work? Does the tire hang under the cab area, and you use that box to raise/lower it?
BTW, i'm new to this - where do C-10 / c-15 trucks normally have the spare? Mine didn't come with one when I bought it the other week. |

That is where the spare would normally have been kept.

Re: HAVE YOU SEEN ONE OF THESE BEFORE? Spare Tire Caddy
does it hook up to the battery and use power to lift the spare back up? are you going to test it before you pul it out? what are you going to ask for it?

It is operated manually. You turn the knob to unlock and operate the other knob with a lug wrench or socket and breakover. It is all there. I will check the operation before I pull. I would like to get $75 and that would include shipping within the US.

Re: HAVE YOU SEEN ONE OF THESE BEFORE? Spare Tire Caddy
Very, very cool! My truck is a spare tire stepside, so I have no need for it. Now that I'm a welder, I could always build my own.
I hope you get your asking price though. If I had a fleetside, I'd definitely try to get that one off of you. |

I had a 68 last year and it had one of those built in to the rear step bumper... The truck was from Oklahoma too

that sounds like a cool little setup. unfortunatly i relocated the gas tank to where the underbed spare tire would go
