Drive shaft advice
Hello all,
I am working on my '71 C20. I am changing the rear end out for a highway friendly gear ratio. I already have the rear end, it is from a '69 1/2 ton. Problem is, it's shorter than the old rear end, making my original 3/4 ton driveshaft too short. Does anyone have suggestions on what years/models I can pull a driveshaft from to make this up? Also, the original is a two piece driveshaft. I have researched specs and haven't had much luck so far. Any help would be appreciated. |

Re: Drive shaft advice
So the 69 1/2 ton rear end is a 6 lug wheel pattern and the front of the trk is 3/4 ton 8 lug. in 70 chevy made the 1/2 ton rear ends about 3/4 inch wider on each side. are both rear ends coil spring?

Re: Drive shaft advice
Yeah, but the problem I'm having is from the rear stump cover to the U joint. The 1/2 ton 12 bolt is shorter than the 3/4 ton 10 bolt. Therefore, my original driveshaft is too short.

Re: Drive shaft advice
Even if someone had a bolt in for their truck, it doesn't mean it's a bolt in for your truck. These things aren't cookie cutter, there's lots of wear and tear, and variances that can cause you to need a shaft lengthened or shortened.
