Where are the trucks for Hot August Nights?
Anyone going? I begin at the swap meet tomorrow. Would be nice to see a lot of Chevy's. Borrowed my wife's sewing tape measure. Hopefully I can locate the right truck for molding/sport mirror placements.
If you've never been and like nice classics, Reno is loaded.

Re: Where are the trucks for Hot August Nights?
Sure it helps (thanks)....See that 35" reference? That's supposed to be 30" from somewhere around the rocker panel. Here's some good info. Found one truck today, he said I could measure but couldn't touch the paint. I didn't want to push it, though he didn't realize til later I had a rubber sewing tape measure with electric tape on the end (i.e., can't scratch). Next time I bring the "Michael Jackson" gloves that came with my floor speakers..........
Nice guy. He has a 72 Super short bed with a 350, and the moldings are all original. His truck is in nice shape, was restored 17 years ago. He said a lady had offered 35K for it. It's nice to know the 30K I'll blow on this project is a fair investment as well as a must do. Some good info. on the subject here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...21#post1971021 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=672793 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=612113 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=665133 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=179279

Re: Where are the trucks for Hot August Nights?
I'll probably cruise up Saturday night, anyone going to a particular showing location? (Atlantis Casino, Peppermill, downtown etc.).
Hope to meet some folks from here. |

Re: Where are the trucks for Hot August Nights?
I wanted to test my knowledge level and the 5" "theory" against the following two threads. The first thread demonstrates the hole for the lower body molding for rear cab is approx. 8 1/8", and the molding for the upper molding for rear cab is approx. 23 13/16"...
Word is the real VALUE of that 30" mark in the assembly manual is it's 25" from the body. Looking at the second thread of the assembly manual: The top molding hole locations are 1.07" and 1.09" from the 25" line (reads 30"). I'll call it 1.08", therefore the hole should be 23.92" from the bottom.........Pretty darn close to 23 13/16", and that was just from a picture and bad eyes. So I think it's safe to say that YES, that 30" line is a 25" reference point. My only question would be, is that from the ridge of the cab that lies underneath or is it from the lower cab body? I think I know who to ask. In some ways these measurements are just a guide. There's a video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JQYAEa0OGw) that shows the upper is based on the molding that sits above the door lock. From there you tape everything on for temporary and just eye ball it. Then you have to consider should that bed and/or cab be off.......there's no substitute for how it looks, and those assembly specs. may not be the answer. Makes me think I need to have the rear leafs arced so they're even. That or buy new ones. One side is 1/4" off. Be a lot simpler w/o the moldings. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=672793 http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...21#post1971021

Re: Where are the trucks for Hot August Nights?
The hot spot tonight is A/W Restaurant for trucks. I missed out. My daughter wanted to get home. Toyed with the idea returning in the old truck with the bed off, but didn't want to take a risk. I suppose I could mount a spare tire on the frame.
Swap meet was a disappointment. I ended up with $1 wire brushes. I might hit Atlantis on Saturday. Don't really know what time.

Re: Where are the trucks for Hot August Nights?
Summit Racing has a car show every Friday night at their store off Mc carren blvd on the east side of town. Was there a month ago and there were 4 real nice chevy trucks.
Reno has American Graffitti all year long. For a car guy this is the place to live. I am in the process of moving from Alaska to Reno just to get some use out of my vehicles. Have met a lot of great local car guys there. Vic |

Re: Where are the trucks for Hot August Nights?
If you'd like for me to get my wife's measuring tape out and take some measurements on mine, let me know. My cab is still in primer, so no worries about scratching anything. If you want, we can work out a time this weekend, and we can chat, and I can try and set up whatever measurements you'd like. Just let me know.

Incidentally, call it blasphemy, but it sure would be a lot easier if we had/use the metric system from inception. Metric is more accurate and makes a lot more sense. GM 10ths system is a blast. .47 = greater than 15/32". GM uses 12 inches in a foot but 10 parts for an inch? What the heck? Beautiful truck 68.

Re: Where are the trucks for Hot August Nights?
Maybe I'll see you there for my truck's first visit Vic. The paint is supposed to done before next August, but I'm not holding my breathe for painter nor myself. Probably more like two years.

Re: Where are the trucks for Hot August Nights?
Shame you're not here now. I'm trying to locate a mechanic to assist on some things at my place. Pay a good wage, but so far, nothing. This is rebuild business is new to me. My son is off the coast in Alaska, commercial fishing. Last I heard he was in Port Heiden. Looks like a population of about 200. I bet the women are beautiful.

Re: Where are the trucks for Hot August Nights?
You and me both . I have collected over 50 years of stuff and most will be hauled down to Reno. Wish this move was done and over. I have purchased a 7500 square foot building to where I can set up my new shop and get back into building my street rods. It is difficult in getting a good body , paint and mechanic. That is why I do all my own work
