Reverse lights

I converted an auto trans to a manual m21 4spd. I also have a new engine harness made for the manual trans my question is how do you wire the reverse light which is the light and dark green to the transmissions reverse light switch which I also have for the correct yr of the trans which is a red and light green wire. I'm guessing it's as simple has plugging the two end together but I just want to make sure.

Re: Reverse lights

Maybe not that simple!!
I assume you have a car type m21 with the shift levers on the side or are you talking about a truck 4 speed with the stock shifter in the top of the trannyy.
I've never seen an m21 with a back up light switch on it.

Re: Reverse lights

If the switch has 2 connections. I'm pretty sure that dark green wire has 12v and the light green runs to the tail lights.

I would us a multimeter to see if the switch is 'open' when not in reverse, and 'closed' when in reverse. Then it is just as simple as connecting the two wires to the two connections.

On my 3speed On the Column there is a reverse switch on the column...so...your wiring might need extended.

Re: Reverse lights

The reverse switch was activated by a rod that connected the shift arm to the steering column. The reverse light switch was on the steering column.
Do you have a pic of this wiring and where you think you'll connect it on the tranny?

Re: Reverse lights

Yes I have a rod connected to the reverse so the switch will then be activated when you throw it in reverse . The reverse Switch was on the column for the 3spd because that was shifter from the column but this is a car trans going in a truck so I do know that the switch was off the tranny I have that all installed I just now I have an open end wire ( not connected to the switch) one the engine harness itself I then have an open connection from the switch on the tranny that is also not wired to anything. I don't not have pictures right now I am away but I can get some later this afternoon

Re: Reverse lights

I'm just wondering about this 'switch' on the tranny.
If you're talking about the switch on the 3-4 shift arm, that's a ground switch.
Sorry if I've confused you!

Re: Reverse lights

Is this what the connector on the transmission looks like?

Or is it something on the shifter linkage?
