prying dash out to bolt up steering column

When I re-bolted up my steering column after re-installing my instrument cluster I had to pry the crap out of my dash to get the two front bolts on the plate( that holds the clutch and brake pedal bump stops) bolted up. It retracted about 3/8 inch. I could watch the instrument cluster plastic flex and I thought it was going to break.

Any tips on this. I need to pull the cluster again to do the volt meter and washer pump. Hoping to thwart the prying next time if possible.

Thanks!

I have the exact same problem! Just dicovered it last night. I'm wondering what caused that section to move out of alignment that much with the truck just sitting there? The right side is easier to pry back up that the left side.

Re: prying dash out to bolt up steering column

Happens every time I remove/reinstall a dash. I use a screwdriver through the holes to pull it back in place, and then bolt it up.

Re: prying dash out to bolt up steering column

If i remember correctly both bolts go in at an slight angle so i believe i had to push up on that bracket to get the bolts to start.

You can install the dash without removing that bracket, its a tight fit tho.
