Shortbed question
Hey guys, I know this might be a dumb question but I cannot think of an answer. So in a shortbed conversion you usually take 12inches out of the middle, and chop 8 inches right off the back. that's 20 inches. But a longbed is 8ft, and a shortbed is 6.5ft. isn't the difference in that 18 inches? I could just be missing something simple, but why is it 2inches off? Thanks!

Re: Shortbed question
You can use the search function and should find lots of good info on here about it.

Re: Shortbed question
There are several walk through's on how to do it right.
The measurements have already been done, take it as fact and move on. |

Re: Shortbed question
Sorry I can't give you a walk though of personal experience cutting a frame down, but here is a link to a shortbed conversion thread you might find useful.

Re: Shortbed question
most long beds are 12" longer in the front and 8" longer in the rear.

Re: Shortbed question
I did the LWB to SWB conversion with those numbers and it lines up perfectly. Lifted the newly cut bed, rolled the truck underneath and the bolts slide right in the holes. Cab to bed gap looks good too.

Re: Shortbed question
Rutt Rowe,
I cut 60" out of my wheelbase and about 10' off the back (after axle). Are you saying I cut off too much? Just kidding. The 12" off the middle takes the frame from a 127" wheelbase (long) to a 115" wheelbase (short). The 8 inches off the back just works as this is up under the bed and keeps it from hitting the back rail when the bed goes back on. Like said earlier, "it's been done a lot, and these numbers work". Google shortening a long bed. There are videos of Stacy on Gears doing it. I watched those videos quite a few times before my first, and have since done a few more. Works.
