What a surprise this find was!!
Earlier this year I got some a extra pair of tires and rally rims from Low 87 (thanks Greg ) at a swap meet. I have been swapping those tires out since my alignment has been bad. No sense in using a good new tire on bad alignment. I finally decided to get the front end going and buy a new tire. I went to Discount Tire and asked the guy to go ahead and take off the two old tires off the rally rims (one of my factory and one of Greg's old ones) while he was installing the new tire as well. He placed the used rims in the back of the truck and I started looking at them. He said they looked like 8". Well I got home and sure enough between the outer beads is a good 8" All this time I thought I had 15x7 instead of 15x8. So next time new tires come into the picture time for some big boys

AFAIK, truck rally wheels are always 8" wheels. I think it is just the later van wheels, like the ones always sold on ebay as take-offs, that are 7" wheels.

Not true. Many of the older rally wheels on pickups are 15x7 rather than 15x8. The original ones on my Gentleman Jim are 15x7s. The ones on my 86 C10 and 87 R10 were both 15x8s. I dont know if there was a year it all changed or something else.
The aluminum wheels on my 80 Indy Hauler are 15x7 also. I will say that all of the 4x4 rallys I have seen were 15x8 though.

I am pretty sure the aluminum wheels are all 15x7. It kinda sucks because I really like the looks of them, but they are too skinny. BTW, the ones on my 90 and 91 4x4 Burbs were both 15x7 aluminum wheels

the ones on my 82s were all 15x7, and the ones on the front of my '49 were 6 lug and 15x7, so 4x4 rims did come in 15x7.

comparing 89 and newer stuff isn't any good, in 89 with the 1/2 tons i'm pretty sure they all went to 15x7's. then in 99 they went to 16x7.5's on 1/2 tons
