what kind of carb is this?
Hey does anyone know what kind of carb this is, Other than it being a 4 barrel i dont know anything about it. Any info would be great. Thanks guys.

That is genaricly called an AFB. It could be a Carter, a Webber, or an Eldebrock carb.

Allumium Four Barrell
Edelbrock versions are zinc BTW, but the Carters are made out of allumium. Great carb IMO.

I agree, they seem to be excellent carbs. My 406 has one, and I love it, HUGE improvement over the Holley that I was running. Easy to tune, and tough as nails as well.

holley is a ****ty carb...that looks like a carter to me...i ditched the ol holley i had and am currently using a demon on my 396

personally, ive had 3 quadrajets, one edelbrock, and a holley.... i wouldnt trade the holley for anything. 2 of the quads were so so, the e-brcok wouldnt do crap, one quadrajet ran good, but none of them will set you back in the seat like the holley will. i changed absolutly nothing but the carb
oh, and i agree with the carter AFB as to whatyours is

It looks exactly like the Carter 9000 series AFB carburetor I just rebuilt. The vacuum ports are even the same (which is the only difference between the one pictured and the Edelbrock 1400 series carburetors).

Here is a comparison to the Edelbrock. This one is a 750 with electric choke.
Looks EXACTLY the same except the color and the name rivited on the front. |

I have even used a carter top half on top of an Eldebrock bottom when i was in a pinch one time. You woulda never known, ran like a bat outa h*ll.
The AFB is a very good design with few flaws. The holley is a fairly simple carb that makes great power, but is so flawed that many ppl refuse to ever use one again. The Quadra Jet is a great carb that is so complicated, ppl will use them untill they start messing up, and then bail on it and look for a replacement rather than try to rebuild it. |

if you guys want real performance from a carb...check into demon carbs....the rest are just scrap in comparison

I'm a die-hard Holley guy, never had any problems other than a blow power valve or two. I had bad luck with a Carter, it's just the luck of the draw.
