99.99% Done

Haven't really been back since being punted in this spring/summer, but I figure I owe everyone who helped with ideas and info before that on this multiyear project at least a photo...

If I can remember where it was I'll update the build thread with some completion photos as well. I have the 16.5s w/ NOS caps (ouch) but they're locked in a vault while I drive around with these later-model wheels.

The mirror are chrome to "de bulk" the cab, and the camper lights are period items, not stock. Otherwise I held very close to the stock look. It's all the original color, motor, interior, etc.

It's in my favorite local "old USMC guys fix old cars" shop for the last things I can't do (charge the AC, align the front end, etc).

I have enjoyed your in-progress post on this project. Your attention to detail is taking the restoration and knowledge on these trucks to another level of appreciation. Looks beautiful.

And one thing you can't see is that the cargo light is also a super-bright LED third brake light, but only on braking (you can't see a hint of red when off, being an LED). Cargo lamp still works too, it's all packed into the oem housing. Thanks for the kind words!

Do you have the cargo light wired as a separate stoplight circuit like new vehicles, or did you tie it in parallel with the existing brake light circuit?

I ran it as a separate circuit right from the brake pedal, though found out later that the 4-way flashers back-feed into that, so if you don't want the third brake light flashing during 4-ways, you'd need a diode. I didn't mind it.

I like every nit pickin' thing about that truck. I wish the original owner could see it. This is the Big Boy GMC pickup. Chroming the west coasts, the Yankee clearance lamps, and dual pipes out the back are all additions that enhance what it is and would have been classy additions in 1969

Thanks! The color is 508 (aka PPG 2169) Dark Blue Poly Metallic, it's the original factory color for it.

Thanks! I have been in contact with the family, there are still kids and grandkids that grew up camping with it. Sadly the husband and wife are gone a few years back.

When I first started this I felt I was "settling" because it wasn't a 1/2-ton shortbox. Like Jesse before me my original intent was to shorten it, but I just couldn't bring myself to modify it. It was too nice and original.

So now, the irony is, my favorite thing about the truck is that it's a TRUCK, ie: 3/4-ton and 1-ton chassis, extended bed, big ass mirrors and lights, all of that.

Did they make a K3500 Custom Camper (Longhorn?) That's about the only thing it's not!
