Tailgate Window Scratches

Just started doing some work to my '85 and seem to be getting scratches on the inside of the window when rolling it up and down. I thought it was the seal or wiper that's supposed to attach to the tailgate carpet/plastic cover, but my wife says different. She remembers me tearing out a piece that was partially intact right against the window back when I bought the Burb. She's a lot younger than me and I have a bad case of CRS, so I think she may be right.

From this link http://www.lmctruck.com/icatalog/csb/full.aspx?Page=33 what piece am I looking for? I want to tint the window, but have to take care of this first.

Re: Tailgate Window Scratches

So, #6 looks to be the outer rubber, squeegee seal.

Depending on the package you have:
Sierra/Silverado package, looks to be #8 for inner felt seal
Without Sierra/Silverado package, looks to #7 (Sub A) for inner felt seal

Re: Tailgate Window Scratches

Thanks. It's a Silverado, so I need #8 for sure. The felt on mine is gone. Pretty sure you're correct that #6 is the outer squeegee. I have a small section missing from that one as well. I can't figure out what #3 is, but it looks like is may be the outer piece that fits over #6 and over the exterior lip. It's only $7, so I'll get that too.

I wouldn't buy them from LMC. I replaced the outside scraper on the tailgate of my 79 with one from LMC, it looked original to the truck within a year. Precision Parts make better seals, there are a few vendors here that carry them.

#3 is a thin rubber piece that protects the bottom of the glass when inserted into the bottom channel. I don't think you need it. I believe it's to protect the glass from being in a glass-on-metal contact.

Re: Tailgate Window Scratches

Got it. I haven't been able to locate the pieces anywhere else, so unless someone else chimes in, it looks like it's LMC.

What does the felt attach to? There's a hard piece with staples through it that's attached to the inner plastic tailgate cover. It's also damaged, and it's also what's scratching the inside of the window. Here's a couple of pics.

Re: Tailgate Window Scratches

Is that the outer scraper? It has metal tabs on the backside that fit into slots in the tailgate.

Re: Tailgate Window Scratches

Yes, that's the outer one.

Since the inner plastic tailgate cover hooks over the inside of the window channel I think the felt must attach to it. The cover is not screwed down in the photos so it's riding higher than it normally does. I'm wondering what the jagged edge piece inside the window is called. The sash maybe?

Before you buy LMC, check with member Captkaos. He's a vendor here that sells the Precision seals. I don't know what they have or don't have for the tailgate but he can check for you.

Re: Tailgate Window Scratches

I agree with Bruiser. Do NOT buy LMC! I didn't buy scrapers but bought a rear cargo lamp seal from them. In just over a year it was all dry cracked. It looked worse than the original 1977 one I had removed.
