CL ad: swb with a lien (not mine)

I'd be a bit squeamish about buying anything on lien but where, here is is.

http://boulder.craigslist.org/cto/5309548693.html

I took pics of the step bumper....I want to make one for my swb.

Re: CL ad: swb with a lien (not mine)

that's the best deal I've seen in a long time. I wish I could ponce on that. The lien is no problem, you just pay the lien holder rather than the owner

How do you know it has a lien, did the seller tell you? That looks like a great buy on a short box 4 x 4.

I wouldn't worry about it either. you just deal with the lien when you pay for it. Do the deal at the lien holders location.

Doesn't the lien holder, the bank for the most part, keep the title in their possession until the lien is satisfied?

Depends... some states don't title old vehicles... so, not always?

Some states actually keep the title while others issue a title which states there is a lien on the vehicle.

I think the seller wants full price and then new owner pays the lein in addition.

Why think that? I see nothing stating any of that. If this was the case you'd think the balance on the lien would be posted in the listing. I see $8,500. I think the vehicle costs $8,500. Maybe the lien is $8,500 and the seller just wants it paid ff, or a portion goes to lien holder and the seller gets balance

Re: CL ad: swb with a lien (not mine)

With a truck that old most likely there's no lien. That box on the right is not always accurate. What if it said Diesel and it shows a gas motor? Or it said Automatic and the ad says stick shift? I have seen a lot of Dodge Ram Cummins engine with the box showing them being 8 cylinders (Cummins are 6 cyl). Also some Cummins being Gas. If you are interested just call, text or email the seller.

Re: CL ad: swb with a lien (not mine)

It could also be a mechanic's lien. Those happen when someone has work done and doesn't want to pay for it. The mechanic's lien allows the shop to sell the vehicle and the buyer will get a clean title from the state. I've bought several mechanic's lien vehicles in the past, all with no problems.

Re: CL ad: swb with a lien (not mine)

More likely a "Pay Day" loan that would have to be satisfied at sale time.

Re: CL ad: swb with a lien (not mine)

I would check with the seller and if there is a lien that may have been satisfied just not recorded, the simple solution would be to ask the seller to get a lien release from the lien holder. If it had been paid off but no record of that the release is the answer. a lot of times on an older vehicle the lien release is lost or forgotten. That could also mean it could be a bank repo[ Times are harder than the GOV. and media wants us to think they are]OR it could be a flipper and the title is not in his name. I know it happens everyday with out any problem but jumping titles is a way big no-no. Jim

RUN, DON'T WALK!!!

With what these trucks are going for, I don't think age eliminates the possibility of a lien against one. There is classic vehicle financing available these days, or it could be used as collateral. I've bought trucks that had lien amounts as much as $13k recorded on the title at time of former owner's purchase.

Re: CL ad: swb with a lien (not mine)

I sent an e-mail asking about the lien. I'm going to go look at it if it's still available.
I agree that there are probably people getting loans on classic vehicles with current prices but it makes zero sense to me. These are toys, financing toys isn't a great idea IMHO.

I'll let you know what I find out.

No, I don't. Boat and RV loans make payments very affordable and I know a lot of people that have them. However, buying a '70 K10 with a note just doesn't make sense to me but I was raised in a time where my parents didn't finance anything besides their house. If they didn't have the money, they didn't buy it.

I tend to live like that today. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks I suppose.

I just called the #, it went to voicemail, Highly doubt they'll call me back. One of you local guys would probably get a quicker response by calling.

I soooo want this but can't do it right now. People get loans for old cars all the time so I don't see it being a big issue.
