Anyone ever paint their Blazer Shell?

I've got my top off my 81 K5 while we're having this great weather in N. Alabama. I'm replacing all the rubber seals around the windows etc and I want to repaint the top while it's off.

I've heard of people using a roller brush to paint and others used a sponge brush. I've also got a spray gun for the compressor.

Looking for recommendations from someone that's done it before.

Also on the rubber seals, which ones need 3M'd. I'm thinking the side seals glued to the shell and the header seal on the shell. Not sure about the rubber around the sliding glass windows.


I've got two posts on the 73-87 page but I haven't gotten alot of responses.

you can buy the correct textured paints from your refinish supply house. Napa has it. spray it on.

I just redid my 70 top and had a guy hand sand it smooth and spray on a flattned white paint. Looks good- don't have a pic with the paint on to show yet tho. As far as the weatherstripping goes I bet a LMC catalog will show in detail how they go. You can order a catalog for free.

Just talked to my local paint supply house. He said to use a urethene primer prior to painting. I've still got some work to do to get the old seals and epoxy off the bottom of the cap. Then I have to decide whether to leave it textured or sand it smooth.

That's what I need, a 70 Blazer to park next to the 70 C-10. I like riding around with the top off right now because it low 80's daytime, and 50's and 60's at night. It would be really sweet if the whole top came off like the early 70's did.

There seems to be alot of 68-72 Chevy lovers out in WA.

I prayed my top with a white bed liner called Gator Gaurd.
I sprayed it on with a "schutz gun" to replicate the orig. finish.
I sanded it smooth 1st.
It turned out well.
