Steering Column Collar

1970 C10 manual floor shift 5 speed

I have a floor shift (manual) and would like to replace or smooth out my existing automatic collar on the column.

1. What's involved to get the old collar off

2. Can you buy a floor shift column collar

3. Or how to make it smooth all around if it can be taken off

After looking through the search forum I'm still confused. Any help is appreciated...Thanks Ed

I removed the shifter boss and indicator by hacksawing and grinding, cutting a couple of pieces of thin sheet metal that fit tight in the openings, and JB welding them in. Be sure to slip a thin piece of cardboard down inside the collar to keep any JB Weld out of the inside of the housing. I wish I had taken more pictures.

If you check the parts board you might find someone that is parting a truck that has one. You can't post a wanted to buy unless you are a Premium member but if you see one for sale you can buy it.

Can the collar it's self be taken off the column in the truck without removing the column? Thanks LockDoc for the info and the pics are worth a thousand words. Great looking work on yours...

Yes, the collar can be removed without pulling the column but you have to pull the wheel and remove the turn signal stuff....
