Muffler selection help needed
I am in search of a new muffler for my 64 with a 250. I have been addicted to youtube watching different exhaust videos. Unfortunately I feel even more confused. I am hoping y'all can help guide me to what I should get. I know exhoust sounds are subjective, but your thoughts can help.
Some things I am looking for in my muffler: 1. I want the straight 6 sound to be heard. Some videos remind me of a tractor, which I kind of like. 2. I want to hear the exhaust when I drive, but not to the point my head hurts. 3. My favorite muffler sound on my previous Dakota 4.7l was a Flowmaster 50 Delta Flow. 4. I am not a fan of Magnaflow. I have had two different Maggies but took them both off. 5. I don't want to spend a lot. My wife will kill me and I am saving to add power steering. It seems some popular mufflers for the 250 are the Brockman Mellow Tones, Patriot Smithys, Porters (too expensive), Flowmaster 40, Thrush welded, and the Cherry Bomb glass packs. Do you have sny suggestions based on what I am looking for? Thanks! |

Re: Muffler selection help needed
Period correct would be a split header and either Cherry Bombs or Hush Trush.
Ive used Cheery Bombs for decades, my current burb has them on it.

Re: Muffler selection help needed
My pickup has 30" glasspacks running off my split manifold. It sure has a great sound! Kind of reminds me of the tractor sound. Can't remember how much I spent on them.

Carven Exhaust Muffler.
YouTube them. They are being used on LS Engines not sure how it would sound on a 292.

Re: Muffler selection help needed
Thanks for the suggestions. I may end up buying a Flowmaster clone and a Smithy to test both.

Re: Muffler selection help needed
I think a set of Smithy steel packs, with a 3/3 split would put the sound on that inline? Stock , or mild 230-250, I would run 2 " pipes....longhorn

Re: Muffler selection help needed
Just ordered some 26" body Brockman Mellowtones. One will be hooked up until I get headers next month. I will post a video, too!

Re: Muffler selection help needed
Can't wait! Haven't heard those on a 6 yet. I know of a guy who put them on his 305 V6 and they sounded good. Look forward to the video!
