Will this shock relocation bracket work?

These brackets are listed on CPP as front upper shock relocators. I picked up a pair and then thought they might work well on the rear as well. My problem though is that I'm not sure these are suck a good idea, wouldn't the shocks bind due to the angle at which the shock is mounted between the plates? The shock mounting bolt won't be on the same axis of travel as the shock itself!

Well they definitely want work where you have them in the picture. Ha... But if you locate the bottom to line up with them they should work fine. They are strong enough to handle the front of the truck they should be fine to use on the rear end I would think.

Could you get away with mounting it on the side like its designed for the front? maybe swap the brackets side to side?

Well this bracket is made to sit on top of the frame rail, it adds extra shock travel which is needed for lowered trucks... or did you mean just mount them straight up to the side of the frame? That's an option I thought of but for some reason threw out, I'll ponder that... in fact I'll have CPP c-notches installed, and I can maybe mount through the notch as well for extra support

Also mounting it at an angle (20 degrees-ish) will add to the available travel, and that makes finding a shock easier when lowered, so I hear.

I have them in that spot because it's where the frame dips down so they can clear the bed while sitting on the frame rail, but yeah I guess I could move them closer to the trailing arm for more vertical if I mount them on the side of the frame. The bottom mount will be a bit past the rear of the trailing arm, toward the truck centerline (flattened the stock mounts and flipped them left/right).

I used this design super easy. I should have never waited so long to change the upper mounts. The ride is so much better now.

I was originally going to mod my factory upper brackets to the same effect, but I'm set on moving the shocks to the rear of the axle and outside the frame rails now -- it's going to make exhaust a whole lot cleaner!

The axis is wrong with the front mounts. Check out No Limit rear shock locators.

This would be a better idea. I installed it on my 71 and love it.

I'm sure someone will chime in on this, but I know there is some cad drawings that someone posted on the board for some rear shock re-locators. I believe they are made from 2" box tubing, (heavy wall thickness) I made a set of these and used the factory lower mounting plates, but I took those, and flattened out the plates with the exception of the stud mounting holes. I then swapped those left for right side,
This allowed me to mount the rear shocks almost vertical.
the rear shock re-locators replace the factory riveted brackets, allowing longer shock travel,and eliminate the angle of the shocks.
I'll take some pictures of mine later today. I hope this helps explain this, I'm sure someone else may have some pictures or drawings that you can see for yourself.

I think these were mentioned already, unless I'm mistaken (with no pics attached though) -- are these the ones?

Also attached is a pic of the inside of my frame -- I have a C20 and recall hearing that there was more frame support back there, is it typical to have the doubled frame thickness like in the pic? I'm thinking if I mount the shock to the side of the frame, right in front of the pictured crossmember then I'll be in business. I'll have to get that notch installed and the thing lowered to verify though as I can't really picture the geometry mentally.

I like the no limit mounts but I don't need the lowers, and I'm not going to spend $150 for just the uppers! Also the no limit mounts are at about 30 degrees and I'm looking for ~20 degrees at ride height.

I was thinking that a leaf spring plate might do a good job though:

It would be easy enough to mount these on top of the frame rails with some stick-out.

I still am liking the idea of just mounting a stud through my notch and two layers of frame rail though...

Ok so I ran across this in someone's thread -- looks like my mounting idea is feasible, now I just need to do it!

After more thought and getting my notches mocked up, it looks like mounting through the notch is feasible but I'll miss out on about 1" of shock travel. So now I'm looking at going with the bracket in #11 or this one from summit.

I think the #11 is a better choice since it's 1" tall vs 1.75" tall for this mount. I'll probably cut half the mounting surface off of it and relocate the mounting holes to make it easier to mount.
