Whitewall and black steel or Chrome wheels?
id like to hear your vote or preference on wheels. I'll either put new Coker radial with wide whites and black steel powdercoated 15" wheels or 18" front and 20" rear 5 spoke Torq ThrustII. Truck is dropped and its a red rat rod. Picture 1 is whitewalls, picture two is the 18/20" wheels, and picture 3 is my truck.

Re: Whitewall and black steel or Chrome wheels?
my cruddy opinion is that I dont like staggered diameter wheel sets. looks like a steamroller to me, with the little wheel in front and a bigger wheel out back. yes I know guys that grew up in the 60s and 70s are channeling their inner dragsters with big and littles, but to me it just looks like you couldnt fit as big a wheel in the front as in the back because it was hard, even though that is probably not the case. for some reason wheel diameter differences are easier to spot than tire diameter differences.
I DO like staggered widths, I always get the rears with about an inch more width in the rear than the front and definitely more tire in the rear. I like powdercoated (in my case painted) steel wheels with whitewalls on a truck I am selling, whitewalls are like crack for attention whores haha people stopped me all the time. I dont like cleaning them though. I like a nice set of shiny polished wheels or chrome wheels with blackwall tires on a truck I own, with the rear 10-20% wider.

Re: Whitewall and black steel or Chrome wheels?
I'm the opposite as I ran staggered diameter rims for years. 14x7 on the front with 195-60-14 tires and 15x8 on the back with 255-60-15 tires but I wanted a hot rod look at the time.
I'd say tire choice and 15s and white walls or 20's and rubber band tires depends more on the rest of the build of the truck. What fits best with the rest of the truck so it looks like a complete package truck rather than a wheel and tire add with the truck as a background. We all see pictures of Youngrodder's green and black truck everywhere on the net and the main reason guys love that truck is that your eyes see a complete package truck where everything on the truck works with everything else and nothing overpowers it. Looks at some other trucks and all you see at first is rims and tires and then your brain says there is a truck there too. To me though if your truck isn't showroom stock and has bumper guards and or a visor it needs the whitewalls as part of the package. If it's slammed and slick then go with your favorite size.

I flop back and forth all the time. Sometimes I wish I had another set of wheels.

Re: Whitewall and black steel or Chrome wheels?
I was torn between the same two options for mine though I prefer the same size wheel diameter front and back.
I had black steelies on my 52 Chevy 210 with stainless trim rings and chrome spider center caps. I actually got quite a few compliments on those. I looked at the cost of WWW and the same wheel style for my current build and the cost was going to be about the same, if not higher (new) than TT-2s. I kept an eye on CL but rarely ever see WWW. I found a set of 18x8 TT-2s w/ lugs for $750 and went for them. The tire profile is a little thin but I’ll live with them for the price given the wheels and tires are like new. If I had money to burn, I would have two sets of wheels and tires and swap them out as my mood changed. |

Weird. You see this happen from time to time. Someone joins, asks a question, gets lots of replies, then they disappear never to be heard from again.

I have blackwalls on dark grey wheels with moons and trim rings. I'd love to find a wide white in 16" radial, and when I do I'd love to be able to afford them. |

White walls and smoothies win out if your gonna keep it a rat rod. I still do love those torq thrusts on the AD's though.
