Re: is this legitimate

It looks to be in great shape, it has the proper font. So could be an original.

From that picture it looks original to me. And nicely optioned to boot!

Re: is this legitimate

Not sure why the VIN is blacked out? Looks legitimate; 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive BB Cheyenne Super two tone blue with tilt wheel, a/c, sliding rear window, and tach. The SPID is even covered correctly with laminate. Why do you doubt the SPID?

I'm just not real sure what they should look like and I didn't remember seeing the rpo code on them. Most I've seen iirc have a four digit or longer number then the discription of the option.
I think the Vin is blacked out by the seller in the add just so people don't get the Vin fr OK my the add.
I guess I'm just trying be sure I'm getting the real deal......a lot of people in this day and age out trying to make a quick buck, and if you can swap out the spid for a $100 or so and make an extra grand on it there are people that will.

Thanks again

Re: is this legitimate

Thanks I appreciate the replies I'm looking at purchasing the truck and wanted some input on it before I totally commit. I know the value of these trucks has gone way up and I don't want to overspend.

I know it will hurt value compared to a 1/2 ton and I would rather have the coil spring rear suspension but the truck is in fair shape un messed with and has nice options so I don't mind.

Re: is this legitimate

What's wrong with highly optioned 3/4 ton trucks? These aren't sports car forums!

I think the SPID looks perfect - almost a little too perfect, like a redo, but not a truck I'd worry about a repro spid too much even if it were. But I think it's probably a well-preserved original.

Absolutely nothing. 1/2 ton are easier to chop & drop so more desirable for the ever growing non old school crowd.

If I had more room I'd have a C25 to match my C15. C25 for hauling stuff... C15 for hauling a$$....

Re: is this legitimate

From that picture details to confirm either way just are not there. While the codes, descriptions and format "look" correct I can't say without a much better picture and most of if not a complete VIN to compare it to other SPID from the same plant and time period.

Notably is is a Cheyenne Super and a 558 paint code. Don't often see those together. Paint code 558 is the Custom Two-Tone scheme of a 510 Medium Blue body with a 523 Dark Blue roof in the conventional two-tone style. In fact it is just like this K20.

Re: is this legitimate

On the paint code this truck does have the dark blue top and lower lighter blue but one thing that seems odd to me is it does have the white sides between the upper and lower trim. Is that possible from the factory or did someone do a repaint?

The white paint was clearly added at some point and needs to go away IMHO. As I said earlier it should look like the K20 I posted even to the near useless base mirrors.

One of the common beliefs was that Cheyenne Supers came with the Deluxe Two-Tone paint as part of the trim group. More than once I have seen a solid paint CS deemed a fake which is not the case. In fact any Two-Tone paint was optional on every trim level and model 67-72.

ggtsvnv, SS Tim sent me a SPID from his collection that he thought might be your SPID. He collected it in march of 2014. I ran it through my imaging programs and I feel sure that it is your SPID. Tim and I discussed it and compared it to other known SPIDS from 1972, Fremont with close serial numbers. We both feel sure that the SPID is 100% legit. Tim asked me to post the enhanced version of the SPID he found, for you to see. I blocked out the unique serial number incase you buy the truck and don't want your VIN posted. Here it is.

Re: is this legitimate

Bruceman 1968 thank you very much. At the moment I'm trying to decide what a fair offer is. The truck had some rust issues in the cab roof and firewall to go with the typical rust in the cab corners and floor. The rust in the firewall bothers me do to what I can't see. I think the cab lights on the roof have leaked over the years and water running down the inside of the roof has caused the rust in the roof, driver side firewall, and driver side floor area. I'm leary of what I will find behind the windshield, and in the pillar area once apart. I like the truck otherwise.

Thanks for the help

Rob, No, I did not lift the black bar. SS Tim had another picture of that exact same SPID in his collection. I simply compared the two images to see if they matched by enhancing the order number as well as some other characteristics.

Re: is this legitimate

Glad that Bruceman and I were able to confirm this truck for you.

Its unfortunate it has enough rust to give you pause but I understand. Out here far less has me thinking move on most of the time.

However it shoud be noted it is a rare combination coming together on that SPID. Won't add any value beyond what a Big Block Cheyenne Super 20 normally has, but you most likely will never be parked next to another at an event.

So just to keep you motivated here is a 559 truck, same colors reversed scheme.

Re: is this legitimate

Does the seller have a price in mind? Personally I stay away from any truck with firewall or roof rust due to work required. To me it's not worth much of anything if those 2 places have rust and I keep looking. Only time I'd buy a LWB with roof or firewall rust is if under $2g and a solid driver lol

Dave, your truck is very nice and there is nothing wrong with 3/4 ton trucks. I've been collecting these trucks since the 80's and have owned pretty much every year from 67-72. Never owned a c/20 or c/30 just because the right one at the right time hasn't come along.

ggtsvnv good luck with your search for the right truck whether it be this one or another. This forum is the right place to ask the question you posed and hopefully you continue to enjoy it as much as I do.

Re: is this legitimate

The owner is asking $3750.00 for it.....he did say he's open to offers and that was just a starting point. I love everything about the truck except the rust lol.

I had a 70 custom deluxe years ago and about had it restored, when someone decided they wanted to barrow it and never returned it lol.

I still have the title to it....anyway I have wanted another ever since but every time I find one it is really rough, beat and the timing has never been right. I'm getting older and want to get back into one. However I want a short bed or loaded long bed. This fits that latter but not sure where to go with an offer without being offensive.
