It doesn't want a 6 cyl
Hello I'm new here. I have a 72 c10 step side.
When I bought the truck it had the original 3 on the tree and a 350. According to the vin it originally had a 250 engine. The 350 was toast. And I started to rebuild it. 4 years later I never did finish it. I just wanted the truck running. So i found a 250 from a 67 c10. New clutch and flywheel, and using my original 3 speed and bellhousing. And started to put it all in the truck. I set it where it is supposed to go. The bellhousing bolted to the rear mounts. But the side engine mounts almost work but the problem is the crank is hitting the front most cross member on the frame. I'm stumped, why wouldn't this fit? This is the set up that the truck was supposed to have. If the cross member was not in the way the engine perches would mate perfectly with the rubber motor mounts. If anybody can help let me know Thanks. Last edited by ohio; 02-29-2016 at 08:53 AM. |

Re: It doesn't want a 6 cyl
You have to move the engine mounts back on the frame one hole.

The mounts are already in the rear holes on the frame...

Are you sure they a 6 mounts and not V8 they look similar and it's easy to mistake the 2 styles .

Looks like it is just about in the right place for and aft. Maybe not high enough? Here is a pic of mine before I pulled it. Crank pulley looks about in the same position.

The frame brackets for the engine mounts and the cross member for the bell housing are different between I6 and V-8. Is the bell housing cross member bolted in? If so you will have to change both. If it still has the rivets you should be able to just change out the front frame mounts. Are you sure that the cross member or frame isn't bent? Oh, and welcome to the board! LockDoc

After looking at your pictures closer I think your cross member is bent. It should be straight across like the first two pictures in this thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=480403 LockDoc

Re: It doesn't want a 6 cyl
It could be bent... very strange place to be bent and uniformly bent too. I'll probably remove it by cutting the rivits and weld a tube cross member in its place. Won't have any clearance issues then

Re: It doesn't want a 6 cyl
Lots of static in this thread.
The inarguable facts... 1) You have the correct I6 engine mounts 2) They are mounted in the proper holes. Your front crossmember must be the culprit. It looks bent to me. |
