Re: sm 420 and 305 tranfer case

I am guessing you mean an np205 transfer case? i have never heard of a 305. if so, there was never a factory application with a 420 and a 205 that i know of. the bolt pattern on the adapters are different. i am sure it could be accomplished, but i dont know how difficult it may be.

Re: sm 420 and 305 tranfer case

if you want to use your 420 you will have to use a divorced 205 t case from an old dodge pickup, they have the front output shaft on the passenger side..or you will have to use a sm465 with a married t case.I see you are real close to me,

Re: sm 420 and 305 tranfer case

It can be done but at what cost is it worth keeping the sm420.
A/A makes an adapter to convert the 420 to 23 spline round pattern, you could then source a dodge 23 spline np205 and it should all mate together.
I would just switch to an nv4500 and a 241 or 205 combo.
That is what I will be doing soon.

Ditch the 420, the replacement parts are near non-existant

Re: sm 420 and 305 tranfer case

No a pto from a 420 will not bolt to a 465 with out a gear change.
An international or dodge remote 205 would be your best bet. Or use a pto on the NP205.
If you were not so far away, I have the remote 205 with cross member or my t221 witch is not noisy and a complete bearing and shim kit to rebuild the spare t221 in shop that I would part with.

How hard is it to find a PTO for a 205?

Re: sm 420 and 305 tranfer case

Easier than finding one for an SM420, maybe harder then finding one for an Sm456.
I have three I have picked up over the years and no I don't want to part with them.
