Initial break in start accomplished, need help though
So the new build started, but only for 5 seconds. I turned the distributor advanced a bit, ran for 10 seconds. Turned it a bit more and it ran longer. Am I chasing the right timing? Is this process ok?

Re: Initial break in start accomplished, need help though
Ok got timing set and it runs like a champ. Only problem is my belt broke after about 10 minutes of 2300rpm for the breakin period. So I know it needs 25 minutes, but what if they aren't 25 straight minutes? I did 10 tonight, so can I get a new belt and fix the pulleys and give it another 15 tomarrow and be safe with all the new parts?

Its a small block Chevy, I have found these things to run in all kinds of conditions.
Maybe change the oil, run it again for a half hour. Done. My initial break in did go that long, it seemed like a forever. |

Most break in periods are for the cam & lifters. The purpose is to heat everything up and get it broke into each other. I would run the engine the full recommended time in a single shot and call it good.
Why did the belt break? Old or is there another issue? |
