which motor mounts for vortec 350 ?

well, a couple of months ago I pulled the 292 and 4 speed trans out of my 64 c10. I got my hands on a 1999 vortec 350 which I rebuilt, and a turbo 350 trans. Now, I still have the 292 motor mounts sitting in the garage somewhere. The vortec has the clamshell motor mounts currently bolted to the engine. My front crossmember is from a 77 c10, disc 5 lug. If I use the clamshells, what exactly do I need to bolt them in to the truck? what do you guys recommend I use to get this engine in?

Here's a picture of the engine where you can see the mount that is currently bolted on

I'd do a search on the forum. You should find plenty of information, ideas, suggestions, pictures, and parts to use. This question has been answered times over in the search you do.

Hey, SNS, found this which is "just for you"! Very good discussion re: your dilema. Pay close attention to 'Captain Fab's' responses--very knowledgeable guy on our forum. Others are good also, but it seems the Captain has had the real-life experiences, so his responses are often spot-on.

...and this is the motor mounts you will likely end up using--I did on my '97 5.7 Vortec put in my '66.

Re: which motor mounts for vortec 350 ?

luvbowties thanks for the reply. Yes I did a search and already read through the link you provided. My question is really, if I want to use the clam shells that are bolted to my engine now, what other part do I need bolted to my truck to mate the two together?

SnS, I doubt if you can modify them to use efficiently. Get the stands like those shown in that link you read. Supports themselves (the rubber cushion part) bolt to your engine. That in turn bolts 'over' the original engine stands.

The ones shown on your engine mount 'backwards' to originals in the newer engines--with the solid part bolting to engine and the 'cushion' part bolting to the stands.
Hope this makes sense.

Also, we've found the short water pump with proper pulleys make the fan blades approach the original shroud at a correct distance when engine is mounted as the link and I described. And, yes, the oem GM HEI dist. will clear. Have to learn from others about tall v-covers, as I've never used any. Friend of mine had to have a tall home-fabbed aluminum v-cover modded on pass side to clear at rear. But who knows what dimensions that tig-welder(nice welding, btw)used when building them?

from what I understand, the 292 inline 6 mounts I have, only 1 of those mounts will work as the other sits in the wrong location

This is likely the type of motor support you will use.

Electric, as my engine had no provision for mechanical.

Re: which motor mounts for vortec 350 ?

If you want to use the clamshells that are currently on your engine, then you will need the frame brackets from a '73-'86 C20/C30 or a '87-'91 R2500/R3500. The engine mounts themselves are the same for '73-'86 C/K10,20, 30 or '87-'91 R/V1500, 2500, or 3500.

The mounts in the link that luvsbowties posted will not work. Those are for a '72 and earlier car.

You could use the original style mounts, but you will need a different frame bracket for the passenger side. The engine mounts and the drivers side bracket from the 292 will all work.

Do you already have a trans crossmember and trans mount?

Re: which motor mounts for vortec 350 ?

I am going with a 94 chevy small block donor truck with clamshell mounts on engine. The 66 I'm trying to put has the factory tower type motor mounts for crossmember. Will this work somehow? Please help and thanks in advance.

Thanks SnSc10, that answers my question. The set up in yours looks great. Gives me a good picture in my mind what I need to do.
