87 Tank in a 75. Filler hose options?

I'm getting close to finishing my EFI conversion and have swapped out my '75 tanks for '87 TBI tanks in order to use in-tank pumps. All was good until I noticed that the '87 tanks accept 1 3/4" filler hoses where my '75 was 1 3/8". Obviously, my new 1 3/8" hoses are not going to stretch over a 1 3/4" barb, so what are my options?

I've found a 1 3/4" 90 degree elbow (Gates 24716), with which I could use a short piece of 1 3/8" tubing as a reducer if the OD is close enough. Is that really my only option?

I doubt I'm going to find a molded hose that fits perfectly, but hopefully someone here has ran into this before and has a solution!

Can you go to an exhaust shop and get them to flare one end of the a section of tubing to fit over 1 3/8 and then flare the other end to 1 3/4 for the hose? They can also bend any angle you might need as well.

The thought has crossed my mind, I'm just not sure how much you can expand that tubing. Expanding it 3/8" sounds like a lot to me.

Remember, 3/8" is the diameter, so you are only expanding it .1875" (3/16") radius... not .375". The exhaust shop can tell you the limits if it sounds too radical to you.

You don't have to do any fancy footwork here. Just get the Gates hose . The early filler pipe is 1 3/4" just like the later tank, so the Gates hose will just slide on each piece



I had to do this for my LS/'87 tank conversion. Just cut the new hose to match the dimension of the old hose. Even the vent hose from the early filler will fit onto the newer tank

That got me excited until I took a closer look at the filler neck in your picture. What you have there appears to be a 79-80 filler neck for use with a door, which is different from what I have.

Yeah, I do have an '80 Fleetside. Is your filler that much smaller?. How about if you just cut a piece of the original hose to fit on your filler, then slide the Gates hose over that, using the original hose as a spacer?
