Disc brake/ drop spindle, frnt end rebuild help
Alright guys.. I finally got the disc brake / drop spindle conversion. This kit also came with ball joints and tie rods. Before I dive into this I just wanted to hear from people who have done this before to see if you would do anything different, any heads up on making anything easier, or any other info. Thanks

Re: Disc brake/ drop spindle, frnt end rebuild help
Make sure you have all the tools you need.Get a good pickle fork or two BIG hammers to break the ball joints loose. ( you may want to read up on how to do it if your not sure how)
Make sure you have the correct size sockets for the ball joint nuts ,and or control arm shafts as well as a good breaker bar. If you have to remove the rivets on the ball joint get an air hammer or a angle grinder and some cold chisels . Make sure you get /make a new front brake hard line Be sure to bench bleed your new master cylinder and prop valve ( you may need to get a special tool to "center" the prop valve. And don't forget to soak anything that will be coming off with JB blast or any good penetrating oil When I did mine i did it on jack stands in my drive way in about 100 degree weather so make sure you have a good work area. hope this helps Have at it you will be glad you did it and take some pictures

Re: Disc brake/ drop spindle, frnt end rebuild help
Don't know what companies kit you purchased but take the time to go through all the parts to make sure everything is correct. My kit came with some mismatched parts such as bearing seals and tie rod connectors and it's frustrating to drop everything to run to the parts store.
Also, the brake flex lines that go from the caliper to the existing hard lines would not work without some modification. Your kit may be different but my new flex lines had a tight bend and rubbed the upper A arm . I just made some new hard lines, slightly change the position/angle and corrected the issue. Not that big of a deal. That being said everything went together well and I've had no issues. Good luck and have fun. |

if doing new A arm shafts make sure you upgrade to the larger U bolts that hold the shaft to the frame (can be had in Help section at Oriely)
