1964 GMC School Bus, looking for information
My family moved across the country, WA to MN, years ago and instead of "wasting money on a rental" my papa bought an old school bus. It's been around ever since and has served as a moving truck, spare room for us kids in the summer, a control headquarter during wildfires and flood disasters and even just a plain old camper. Up until recently i never thought twice about the bus, but now that I've started my truck project I became more interested. I spoke with my dad last night and found out that the bus is a '64 GMC! All he could tell me was that it has a V6 engine and still runs strong, when it starts. He has had it sitting for over a year and we are headed out to get her running and moved this weekend.
The GMC line doesn't have as much, or as easily found, information about them as their Chevrolet brothers. If anyone has knowledge or good links I would love to learn more about this "Cool Bus" (he had to paint over the letters so it didn't say school bus anymore) Picture is from the web, i'll post some of the actually bus when I get to it.

Got up to the bus but were unsuccessful at getting her started. New battery, all fluids topped off, and squirting starter fluid down the carb but she would only crank, no fire. Thinking its a spark issue. All the plug wires looked good and nothing was visually wrong with the distributor. We didn't have the right size socket to pull the plugs to check them. The next step will be to replace coil and plugs.
Over all the truck is in amazing shape. Zero rust, no body damage, everything is straight, no leaks and all the hoses are even still soft. Now I just need to convince my papa to pass it along to the right brother... Posted via Mobile Device |

That would be a very cool ride. I used to see tons of them laying around in yards years ago, most are gone now. I was always looking for a hood off one as they were generally in mint condition, but nobody wanted to part with only the hood.

I am sure it wouldn't have happened on a V6 GMC but I have a memory of one of the old Chev buses with an early SBC. After a stop the driver used to run up this particular hill in second gear with foot to floor. Pow, I got to see what a rod looks like hanging out of an engine.

Hey what size v6 is in there? If you guys decide to go dragster I'd be interested in the v6. Rather see if go to a good home than a scrap yard. You in seattle Washington?
