70 cluster swap to 67 harness?
Hi I'm new here and have a question.. What am I missing here?? Can you swap a 70 cluster into a 67 c10 with basic cluster? I'm not getting cluster lights, no dimming, right side signal stays lit when key turned. Headlights work, gas gauge does not work. My cluster light and gas gauge worked before on the old cluster. Do I need to swap a later headlight switch?? I cleaned the contacts on the harness end and cluster, checked bulbs. Unsure about fuse at panel, didnt look broken.

I believe you have to have the correct harness to be able to switch the clusters, it is a matter of gauges verses idiot lights. They do not interchange

Can I splice my existing harness or do I need the 70? If I need the 70, how far back should I cut it? Anyone have a wiring diagram for this type of swap? I would think if you isolate things it could be done.

Says for a 69, yet I see the pin connection for 67. So that's a good starting point, thank you! Pretty much I need to identify the wires on my harness in the 67, going to take me a minute to digest, looking for fuel wire, then look for 70 diagram. Start 1 at a time.

These two 1 and 12 wires for the ammeter have 4 aamp fuses in line to protect the ammeter gauge. Here is a diagram with these wires and fuses shown and how they are connected. The fuses are circled in red and the battery charge wire is labeled as the SHUNT in the diagram. This is the cluster wiring after the change to gauges. The headlight switch has no bearing on the cluster except that it powers the instrument lights fuse at the fuse panel which are then changed from 12 on the light cluster to 8 on the dash cluster. (gray wires).

What is the trick to getting the contacts to release from the plastic holder? I pushed down on the tab and pulled but stays.

Going to start with 12 to 8, then fuel. Think I've been looking at this all wrong. I got confused from the diagrams at first but then found my wires are numbered on the connector clip!! Nobody mentioned it that lol. Once I found those, following directions like 12-8 is a lot easier to follow. Now if I can just get these out without ruining them..
Also, when I get to the part of adding bigger wire for the fused circuits how will they connect to the tab at the connector? |

My only question would be why not just spend the 395.00 and put the 1972 wire harness in.Less chance for a fire or a short.Remember that harness has been in there for well over 40 years.
Its like they say when you buy a new truck or car.Buy the newest modal to get all the latest upgrades.1969--72 use the same harness.If you using gauges. the only two differences on the 1967-8 to the 69-72 was where the wiper motor plug is. But all the dashes have the holes for 1967-72 they never changed the metal dash |

Because it all worked before, see no bad or melted wires under my dash and dont have that to spend on a swap I got for $40. I already need a new temp gauge $30 sounds better. Not saying a new harness wouldn't improve things just not the time. Vettevet has it figured out and knows whats going on. Just need to see if he will help me thru the wiring.
