How can I get the most out of my 402 on a budget?
Hey Guys,
I've got a 1971 Chevy C20 with a 402 and a SM465 and I am looking to get more HP and Torque out of the beast. I was thinking new headers, new intake manifold and new cam. I don't know what types of parts would work well together, specifically the intake and the cam. This is my first project, doing a frame off restoration and looking to turn it into a monster flatbed, so if anyone has any suggestions it would be a huge help! |

No matter what you build with that slow shifting trans it's going to feel sluggish. I would either go with a faster shifting close ratio 4 speed or 5 if you must go manual. But a well built 3-4 speed auto will make it feel better. A header and intake, cam swap will get you to your goals. Any cam manufacturing company will be able to give you a cam best suited to your needs.
