2005 Envoy Denali lights flickering

My wife bought this suv used a couple years ago and I noticed a few months after she bought it that all the lights (inside and out) had a slight flicker to them. Here in the last month or so it has been getting worse. At 1st I just assumed that the alternator was probably getting ready to give up the ghost but after last night I am not so sure. I was following her home last night and the tail lights went out for about 15 seconds then came back on. About 2 minutes later all the lights went off for 15-20 seconds and came back on. It did not do it again the rest of the way home. She told me when we got home that when they went out the second time she hit the high beams and they came on but the rest of the interior and exterior lights did not. Does this sound like I have 2 different problems? I am guessing the headlight switch is going bad but could that also be the cause of the lights flickering? I am not real good with the newer vehicles and my past experience with local mechanics is they are not either. Thought I would ask here 1st before taking to the dealership.

Thanks
Richard

Re: 2005 Envoy Denali lights flickering

I have an 04 Trailblazer, I've had something similar happen a couple times. The first time, it was a faulty ignition switch, which was taken care of under warranty. About a year ago, it happened again, that time it was just a relay in the under-hood fuse block.
The cheapest and easiest thing would be to change out the relay and go from there.

Also, the control module strips in the rear tail-lights can cause some funky stuff to happen. GM does some funky things with grounding, etc... That may me something else to check.

BTW- I've been driving this Trailblazer for 200,000 miles, I'be had some trouble-shooting experience.
