85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"
Here is a new project I picked up late last week. This 85 GMC was sold new in Shelbyville, Tn, the walking horse capital of the world, and stayed in the same town since new until last week. This 2 owner truck has been garage keep since new and was repainted 5 years ago at the dealership it was sold from. I started on the disassembly this weekend, and have a 4.5/6 drop kit, new 20" torque thrust, and Cheyenne parts dash pad on order.

Leaf packs out and helper springs ready to cut for lowering blocks. Parts will be cleaned and painted as I go.

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"
It's a good day when you get a early morning call from the wheel shop letting you know your wheels are in the house, then to get home and find 2 big boxes waiting for you. Tires should be here Friday.

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"
Well I had a fairly productive weekend on the truck. My tires arrived Friday and I should have them dropped off to the wheel shop tomorrow. I spent most of Saturday cleaning a repainting everything, checking the rear brakes and axle seals. Sunday was mostly getting the shop cleaned and starting on reassembly.

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"
Thanks Tim. I not sure about high end, but its a real nice old truck. I finished up the rear drop last night and I hope to have the front finished by the weekend.

The rear is finished except for a little detailing, now let's get this party started upfront.

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"
Your builds look so much better when you change the rear to a sport bumper. Are you going to recover the seat with the synthetic leather like you normally do?

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"
No sir, not on this one. The seat is original with no stains, rips, or burns. I agree with you on the bumper but I have to leave something for the next man to do.

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"
She is beautiful. I ordered a McGaughys 4.5/6 drop for mine yesterday and the sport bumper last week. What size tires did you go with?

Did I miss it? What was the actual drop you installed? And who's components did you use?

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"
Ah, did a little re-reading and see it's a 4.5/6 drop. Does that not require a notch?

Re: 85 C10 Project "Walking Horse"
It ended up a little closer to 5" in the front and 6" in the back. No notch needed in the back, I have a good 3.5" clearance to the frame. Maybe if someone was hauling a bunch stuff often but I don't build them for that purpose. I've run this setup on 12+ trucks and have never had any problems.
