Oddball 1972 Cheyenne on dallas c list

Lowest option Cheyenne I have ever seen. C10 lwb, 6 cyl 3 spd, radio delete...

http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/cto/5806111684.html
I sent it to my brother in the dfw area. I told him its the ultimate companion for his black 72 c10 Cheyenne with a 402/400, ps, pb, ac

WOW! Love it! Spent all the $ on bling. Cheyenne and upper molding. That's it.

Technically speaking, wouldnt this truck only have two options; cheyenne equipment and lower molding? It has to have paint and interior of some sort, so technically not options...

Also i have never seen one, but it seems possible that a cheyenne could have been ordered without molding...or was it a required option???

It seems this was a special order truck. Notice "order number in lower right corner of spid.

Re: Oddball 1972 Cheyenne on dallas c list

I thought the trim was what made it a Cheyenne, that and a woodgrain door panel on a '72.

Only Sierra Grande/Cheyenne Supers came with upper trim. The trim was included with deluxe 2-tone on all trucks. Sierra/Cheyennes came with lower woodgrain and Custom Deluxes came with black lower trim.

Both Sierra/Cheyenne and Sierra Grande/Cheyenne Super came with woodgrain door panels.

This truck was special ordered to not get all the options the buyer didn't want.

That is why you see the belt molding (upper) as a option on the spid. It was a add on option for a Cheyenne. It have it as a option on my 72 Cheyenne and its a full Tuxedo Black truck. Also, like mentioned, my 71 SWB 4x4 Custom Deluxe is a high option vehicle.

Sometimes a truck will come through without a paint code on the SPID, everyone I can think of seeing was pure white. Most plants listed base trim color with Baltimore being the standout exception. But generally the later non-Baltimore trucks I've noted without a trim code were base trim black. On earlier trucks fawn was the default trim color.

Cheyenne fleetside pickups included the lower bodyside moldings and related trim.
The uppers on this truck were an added cost upgrade option.

Depending on the price schedule used this truck may have had a MSRP of $2999.90 and may have been ordered as such for an "Advertised Special" truck.

Base CS10--CS10934--------------------$2716.90
Cheyenne trim-------------------------------242.00
Upper Bodyside Molding w/Cheyenne-----41.00
-----------------------------------------------------
Total-MSRP-------------------------------$2999.90

Of course the buyer had TT&L to pay as well as any other fees the dealer could tack on to that MSRP price.

Wheelcovers, step bumper, mirrors and grille guard were all added accessories.

I must say, never seen a Cheyenne with a Spid like that one. Very kool, rather rare too. I had 4 option 70 C10 / plain Jane years ago.

Re: Oddball 1972 Cheyenne on dallas c list

Didn't spend all that much more than a stripped Custom. Just a few options on a Custom and the price would surpass this one. Someone wanted the combined comfort and appearance features and no BS. I have a Cheyenne Super saved in Photobucket that's the same way. These trucks are perfect exhibits of just what is or isn't included with Z84 and YE9 trim levels. We see so many well optioned ones many think they came with much more that they actually did. I get excited when I see a Custom with all the bells and whistles. SEE TEN had a great example of a '72 SWB. I restored about the coolest one I've seen, a K/10 SWB Custom 292/4spd, posi fr & rr, 10.00-16.5s, bucket seat, tach, tilt, AM/FM, wood bed, tow hooks...no A/C

Re: Oddball 1972 Cheyenne on dallas c list

I doubt it was a dealer promo order as this would not have been an attractive configuration for buyers. Look at the Inflation Fighter, that gave some trim as well as the popular automatic transmission at a savings to assure the truck would be desirable to many. I think a truck like this could have spent a good bit of time on the lot. Most who wanted a low option truck would have been content w/o the Cheyenne features and most who wanted what the Cheyenne offered wanted more than that.

Here's a '71 Inflation Fighter commercial:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ys8duK_qPg

Notice that this one in the commercial has paint stripes, bright hub caps and bumper, and no windshield molding. Nice looking low budget truck. Did the Inflation Fighter package have a specific RPO code?

BTW- I was watching an episode of 'Adam-12' the other day and Reed and Malloy pulled a blue Inflation Fighter over!

Re: Oddball 1972 Cheyenne on dallas c list

Understand your thoughts Tim, but the YF7 inflation fighter in 71 did not include an automatic trans as part of the package.

Also this truck is a Cheyenne and not a Super. In that light a stripper base truck was seriously upgraded by the addition of the Cheyenne trim. Everything from a lighter to a cargo lamp, chrome bumper and lower bodyside moldings. The upgrade foam seat, vinyl cover, headliner and carpet added creature comforts. Sorry but I can see this being ordered as a traffic truck to list in the paper as a Cheyenne for $2999.95.

Re: Oddball 1972 Cheyenne on dallas c list

Thanks for pointing that out. I didn't check documentation before posting (never do). Was going by memory from the last discussion I was involved in on these years ago, probably confused memory with Highlander. I'm not all about technical data/documentation, don't keep my nose in data, just enjoy owning and driving these trucks. I also know it's a Cheyenne. I guess I still had the Cheyenne Super example I mentioned on my mind, not that it really matters. I just did notice my slip up and corrected before scrolling down here. I had clearly explained the correct differences in a prior post.

So has anyone looked at this truck yet? Aside from it being an oddball, it looks like a pretty nice truck.

P01 & PA1 wheelcovers were optional on both the Cheyenne/10 and the Cheynne Super/10. The Cheyenne trim package retained the base painted hub caps. Cheyenne Supers included the P03 chromed hub cap upgrade.
