Question '69-'72 GMC Grille Question

So, I've tried looking already, but I can't find a thread showing me how. Can someone please explain/show me how to take the top chrome bar off a 69-72 GMC grille? Any help is appreciated!

Re: '69-'72 GMC Grille Question

Let me look at mine. I replaced the top piece on mine and used my original grille.

Re: '69-'72 GMC Grille Question

You have to drill out all the little rivets. Use nuts and bolts to put it back on.

Sheesh! Looks like a lot of rivets to drill out.

Re: '69-'72 GMC Grille Question

Does anybody know whether you can access all the attachment bolts without removing the bumper?

Are you talking about the bolts that hold the grille to the fenders?

Yes, I removed my grille without removing the bumper. Some bolts/nuts were a challenge. The nuts inside the fender for the ebrows were a challenge (rusty) and I think I went through the parking light holes to get some lower bolts.

I removed the grille to get access to, I think, the top bumper bolts that were rusted on. I was adding bumper guards.

Re: '69-'72 GMC Grille Question

Thanks davem815 for such great help. I gotta get on this one, so I'm gonna start by getting out my trusty PB Blaster, and give all the bolts/nuts a good soak.
