I'd cut the thing and get your tunes in. Just make sure you get a deck that doesnt look too out of place. If you really want to you can keep the peices and weld them back in later if you hate the look. Oh and when you cut it if you use a rotozip or dremel or something like that cut a little at a time or it'll get really hot and burn the paint around your cut. I made a surround out of brushed aluminum that goes out to the edge of the radio indent which I think blends the deck better with the rest of the dash. Good Luck.
PS my dash is the same color as yours.

I like the radio delete flip down face that slammed67 has. since you went digital on the gauges, I suggest something digital looking there.

Custom Autosound makes radios with CD or casette to fit original hole, and they look similar to original. Don't be a dash hacker!

Since you have already made everything else look non-stock, then there is no harm in trimming the hole to accept the din sized stereo.
What color is that bleu? It looks awsome. Do you have a pic of the whole truck? I keep telling myself that I am not going to paint the longhorn blue, but then I'll see something like that and want to do it anyways. |

I have a blue blazer I was trying to make the same decision as you. I found an origianl AM on ebay delivered for $47- I still havent' put it in, but I found out you can put your radio/CD player in the glovebox and get a infrared repeater so that you can turn it on and change channels with the remote (without the glovebox open) I think that is the way to go. I figure if the dash hasn't been cut yet I'm not gonna do it. Here is a pic of my dash. Not the best pic, but you get the idea.

1970Blazin,
GOOD CHOICE!!!! You are doing the right thing!! VERY nice looking AM radio there! Looks like you got it for a good price too. I'm doing the same thing. Original in the dash. CD player elsewhere. Where do you get (who makes) the RF repeaters anyway? Darren

Have you thought about doing a console from the dash to the floor. Maybe bring it back between some buckets. I hate to see it cut, it's lived over thirty years.

Here is one of the company that sells the repeater. I haven't gotten to putting in my radio yet, but when I do I will be getting on of these:

Will you be putting in a bench seat or buckets? If you are going the bucket route, you could consider building a custom consol and putting a cd player in there.
Otherwise, I am just another vote for hack it....... The way I look at things, virtually nobody will buy a truck that is modded and put it back to original. And if they do, then making the dash factory again will be just another small thing they have to do amoungst a bunch of other work.....
