Smile Southern Air Unit in 56 Chevy Truck

I recently purchased a Southern Air AC Heat Defrost kit for the 56 Chevy truck I'm building. Anyone have experience installing this system? I'm not an HVAC expert and looking for some resources for help with installation. The online instructions seem very limited

Cant' recall at this time where I bought mine for my 56, but show some pictures of the unit. I remember the "fun" i had mounting mine. used a floor jack to hold it in place to weld my mounting brackets.

Re: Southern Air Unit in 56 Chevy Truck

I put that same unit in my '46. You may not want to hear this but had a lot of issues with it. I'm on my 3rd blower motor, could not get the AC part to hold a charge for more then a month, heater core connections are thin copper and tend to leak. Over-all not happy at all. Oh, and tech support from Southern Rods and Parts....not. Anyway, good luck, maybe they have made some improvements.
Now, to install mine I built a 1/2" steel frame with tabs welded to to act as hangers to the unit. The whole mount system and be unbolted and dropped down. Make sure you can remove the blower motor without disconnecting the AC or heater lines.

How far from the Passenger side wall did you mount the unit?

I mounted mine in the center of the dash. I filler my vent. '46 truck so things would be different.
