Grandad - Dad - Grandson 1971

My son is 13, birthday this coming March. He wants his Granddads 1971 Cheyenne as his first car. My Granddad bought the truck new in 1971. Sometime before 1978, my Dad bought it from him and drove the wheels off it. Last registration was 1996. It was Dad's daily driver until that time. It has been parked ever since.

Originally a big block until it 'broke'. Has a 350 in it now with the original TH400. Plan is to bring it home around his 14th birthday and make it his daily driver. He has a mild budget, but should be able to put a nice driver together.

Last pic is me holding a fish by it in 1978. No SPID pic yet. Did not have the keys to unlock.

Thanks. It needs one patch panel for lower left cab corner. Should be an easy fix. Needs a number of bits and pieces. My son digs the old cars & trucks. At least some of the younger generation is into them.

It's hard to beat keeping something like that in the family, especially considering the shape it's in! What a great looking truck!

Love this. My '72 Jimmy was my dad's first and my 13 year old is going to have one as well...Just not mine! We have a basket case to start working on that will be his. Glad to see you helping your son achieve the dream!

Re: Grandad - Dad - Grandson 1971

I have a lot of memories in this truck. It has been around as long as my memory goes back. The hub caps and white stripes have always been on it. We will see what he wants to do. It will be awesome to put it back on the road.

Power steering, AC, manual brakes. Will put a power brake booster on it. Probably cover the seat like a Super Cheyenne. Replace right rear taillight trim, damaged badly. Trim needs new wood grain, but is in good shape for the most part. Truck was repainted after some hail damage in the early eighties. White on cab will need a repaint. Probably just repaint the whole truck.

Post those caps for sale if your son wants something else, people will be lining up. Nice truck and good luck with your project.
