Window Regulator requiring attention.
Is there any point to removing and rebuilding the window regulators out of a 72? Repop ones are like $30 per side. Are they good quality?
Mine are just plain hard to roll both up and down. Before I disassemble, I would like to know if they are worth saving and repair, or order new ones before I disassemble so they can be reinstalled that day. If I rebuild, what should I expect to do for smooth operation? What parts should I have on hand? I'm sure they have not been serviced in 45 years. Thanks in advance.

Re: Window Regulator requiring attention.
Had the same dilemma recently. I ordered a good mark from rock auto, installed it and so far so good. I plan to blast the original and replace wheels. Use it as a backup if the repop quits.

Following this, as my passenger side is not operating properly.

Re: Window Regulator requiring attention.
I asked about repro. quality sometime back, and the results were a mixed uncertain bag. If yours operate correctly then I'd freshen them up. Add new wheels if necessary as stated. I hear bad wheels is common, but on mine they were great. The LH side is fairly worn out though. Go figure the spring was rusted badly. One of only two signs of rust on this build. The other was the LH door sill.
Your OP says "rebuild".. That sounds like new gears, spring and ?.........Does anyone do this? NOS are expensive and few & far between. I bought one, and it took about one year to find it too. From what I gather there are few options outside Repro., but a new U]OER[/U] regulator is probably inferior a good OEM. Some great vendors on this website for repro. Maybe even an OEM reg..

Re: Window Regulator requiring attention.
It's amazing what a little white lithium grease can do.
Also look at your window felt - the track the glass runs up and down in. If they're worn out the can cause the glass to bind. |

Is it as easy as you say, grease it up and its good to go, pending damaged parts?

Re: Window Regulator requiring attention.
Thanks for the great info
I do not have mine out of the doors yet, so I don't know the shape they are in. I am expecting rusty mechanisms and felt would be hard. the truck is in pretty bad shape at this point. If the wheels need to be replaced, can OEM ones be found, or are they repops? If you have rebuilt them in the past, walk me through it. I don't need OEM, I just want them to work.

Re: Window Regulator requiring attention.
I haven't had any problems with the repops.
Make sure to lube the window runs with spray silicone.

Re: Window Regulator requiring attention.
if you spray some wd40 on them to clean up the 45years of built up crap on them then spray a little bit of lubriplate on them they'll b good to go for another 20years // takes about 5minutes and the cost is next bto nuttin

Re: Window Regulator requiring attention.
I cleaned mine with WD40 and brushes, degreased, and then lubed them up with lithium. The RH was real happy, but not the left. The spring pops. Couldn't tell you if it's the spring itself or something causing it, but the spring was pretty rusty.
