AL WTB: 1963 specific factory power brakes - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

In 1963, Chevrolet and GMC began moving away from the Chevrolet Hydrovac and GMC Midland inner-fender mounted power brakes used from 1955 thru 1962, to the first firewall mounted system which had vertical booster brackets attached to a special flat steel spacer (see photos). In late 1963, GM went to a newer power brake design that allowed better air cleaner and engine area clearance which employed the use of the common "wedge" shaped aluminum spacer and horizontal mounting brackets you generally see on all 64-66 trucks. So only the earliest of 1963 trucks would have come with the original design w/ flat non-wedge shaped firewall spacer you see below. Most often found on 1 ton trucks, but available on 1/2 and 3/4 ton 1963 models.

If any of you have one or know where one is, or have accidentally bought a setup off a 1963 that you are intending to install on your 64-66 project I am perfectly willing to trade you the correct one for your truck in order to get one of these early 63 setups. Let me know what you have?

Are you looking for just the steel plate?
If that's all, you could easily make one or have one made.

yes, but you'd need an original to use as a template - there is a flange to the center hole to retain the rubber, and the precise alignment of the holes is important etc - I wouldn't want to guess at it

I bet Captain Fab could make one in less than 10 seconds if he had an original to go by
