Aftermarket Hurst Reverse Switch Wiring?
Bought a 3 speed shifter from Hurst for my Saginaw, also bought the universal backup light switch (Hurst). It doesn't have a wiring diagram. I'm putting a brand new wiring harness in the truck at the moment, how do I wire this? The wiring diagrams from American Autowire dont offer an alternative to the stock wiring set up.
Thanks in advance. 1970 C10 P/U.

Re: Aftermarket Hurst Reverse Switch Wiring?
One side of the switch "hot" with the key on,
the other side goes back to your back up lights.

Re: Aftermarket Hurst Reverse Switch Wiring?
But my question is where does the hot wire come from and is the other side wiring the actual wire that runs to the tail lights?

Re: Aftermarket Hurst Reverse Switch Wiring?
The original taillight harness, has a wire for the backup lights. Hook that wire to switch. Other side "hot", can either be your original wire to backup switch, or if starting from scratch, anywhere that is hot with the key on.
If starting from scratch, run 1 wire from any "key on" source, to the backup lights, then splice the switch in the middle.

Re: Aftermarket Hurst Reverse Switch Wiring?
The problem is the switch, where do you plan on mounting it? You could probably modify the bracket and switch from a car 4spd but that might be hard to locate and you will have to modify it to fit the 3 speed shift lever on the transmission.
Most car manual transmissions had linkage up to the steering column to actuate the reverse switch. Corvettes for sure have the switch on the transmission that makes contact with the reverse lever. |
