alternator help again please
I just bought a new alternator and its already bad I think. here are some pics of how it is wired right now. the small red wire goes to the fuse block and the big red wire is going to the +battery post. I think its wired wrong because the harness is cut off at the block and I think that it is the old alternator harness, I will post a pic and maybe someone can tell me.

I don't have the engine wiring diagram here, or I would tell you. The harness plug you have there is for the alternator using the internal regulator. The little jumper wire is for bypassing the external regulator. Judging by the harness in your truck it looks to have been chopped pretty good. I would get a wiring diagram, I think there is one on the board here somewhere, or someone can post the engine side of it to show where the wires from the alternator go. Good luck, Jeff.

Here's how I did it. This is the alt. side, just replace left side with left side, and right side with right. The pig tail should be availbe at any parts store.

And here is the regulator side. I have had it set-up this way for about 3 years now. Works great!

Hey Adam12, hopefully you have already solved you alternator problem. But if not or if you need other alternator / starter motor help, I've had real good help from Quality Heavy Duty Diesel Electric here in town (Bakersfield). jerdog
