Smile What is the best abrasive media to use?

Going to start blasting on my truck in a day or so and was wondering what brand and grit would be best to use.

Re: What is the best abrasive media to use?

What are you blasting? Frame rails are good with sand or silicon carbide, body panels are sand/walnut shells or baking soda, plastic is walnut shells or baking soda .....

Re: What is the best abrasive media to use?

I'll be doing almost everything, frame, body, the whole nine yards. Also, what is your opinion on using different grits of abrasive media like Black Beauty and the like?

Re: What is the best abrasive media to use?

I've been using black oxide which is good but I stopped at a friend's shop to try his, and he was using "Starblast", which did a REALLY nice job. It's what I will buy next time.

Re: What is the best abrasive media to use?

I don't know, I just wrote the name down on the bag. But I just googled it and it seems quite widely available.

Re: What is the best abrasive media to use?

Okay, thanks. I looked it up, but I couldn't find many places that would sell one bag.

Re: What is the best abrasive media to use?

I am not a blaster but I have hired one several times.

I think sand is OK on frame and radiator core support. I think my blaster uses "crushed glass" on the body panels.

I do know sand on body panels destroys the metal through warping.

Re: What is the best abrasive media to use?

I've been useing crushed glass.
There is a local company that buys up all the recycled glass in the area and refines it.

They are a supplier too Eastwood but Eastwood breaks down the 50# bags and relabels it as their own and sells a jug for many times the amount of a bag.

A 50# bag cost me $6.00 at the door.

The problem comes where the company has changed names at least 4 times since I've been going there. And it's been over a yr. Since I've been there but the last name they went by was LVI industries.

Recycled glass cuts ok but it does break down quickly.
for the price I can't complain.
