Great score. That should make those cold morning starts work better. I think that is one piece that is usually gone on these old trucks. It rust away and no one every seems to look at replacing them.

oooh, I could sure use one of those. I have the complete setup, heat collector and snorkel but my collector is in rough shape, still works tho. The odd thing is mine is on the driver's side manifold.

i have never seen one before this ....
i tryed it on both exhaust manifols ...LEFT/RIGHT fits both???? i just figured it went on the passenger side... but now i know.....thanks southpa |

Oh, and I think you need one additional piece. There should be a thin plate that fits around the back to help hold the heat in. You can see the holes on the bottom of your unit for screwing it to the backing plate

maybe thats why its flared on one end too...
is to catch the air and push it to the air tude.... so by looking at it it would be the drivers side |

I used to have one of those K&N air filters, truck ran like crap on cold days and took forever to warm up. This stock unit feeds warm air directly into the intake off the manifold, best swap I ever made. I also like my manual choke much better than electric. I prefer anything thats going to make my truck run better over things that just look "cool" like the K&N.

I hate electric chokes also. I probably have the only Demon Carb in the country that is manual choke. I run a 1991 Chevy truck airfilter that I added a second snorkel on with a K&N filter with prefilter and have 2 home made heat boxes on my Hooker headers for the winter, In the summer I run a open element airfilter with 4" tall K&N with a prefilter on it.

Electric chokes are no substitute for the hot air this setup provide when it's cold outside. In a non heated setup the fuel atomizes coming through the carb but pools out on the floor of the intake manifold which is cold. When you provide warm air the fuel has less chance to pool out on the intake manifold floor. This warm air is only provided until the engine is providing it own heat that is enough to prevent fuel pooling. Just for information. The factory setups that used an electric choke typically had the heat stove also. The electric choke would heat up and fully open in a couple of minutes. If you disconnected the heat stove supply to the air cleaner. The vehicle would run like crap cold and would stall because the choke came off to fast to help until the engine reach a decent operating temp. At least that has been my experience.

makes sense ddsmith .... it explains why my truck would sort of shudder on the way to work last winter ... only about a 5 minute drive....and i dont have a heat stove ... the PO took it off for some reason ...im just glad it doesnt get really cold up here

I'm still not sure how thats going to work on the drivers side, because, the snorkel runs up from the front half of the manifold, if you put this one on the drivers side, the snorkel is going to have to turn more toward the drivers side to reach it...
Anyway, still great find!!
