What's the bolt going to? 402 A/C assembly
Reference the bolt, #24...........It's shown with a A/C ground and L-washer. Almost appears to be going to the bottom front corner of the compressor, but at another glance, it shows a different bolt (#12) going to that location.
At another glance, almost appears #24 is for the plate (#29) mounted on back of the compressor. If that's the case, the ground wire connects on back of the compressor? Doesn't seem right. Thanks for any input.

Might be for here. Only bolt I haven't installed yet.

Re: What's the bolt going to? 402 A/C assembly
3 fine thread bolts hold the compressor flange to the front mounting bracket.
The wiring harness has 2 wires. One is the power and 1 is the ground. The ground from this harness is typically attached to the compressor flange by the 5/16" fine thread bolt on the pass side of the pump. There are only 3 of these bolts used on the flange. One long and two short.the longer one is used on the adjusting bar.Number 24 in the pic. The other bolts are 3/8" coarse thread and mount the whole assembly to the main lower support bracket.Number 12 in the pic. The upper right side of the pump flange doesn't use a bolt. Mike. |

I fully agree on that ground wire location. The "sample" truck had this on the top passenger side of the flange using the bolt for the compressor line retainer. There are only 3 of these bolts used on the flange. From what I see, four spots: Top passenger side flange: Compressor line retainer. Both trucks have this retainer. Perhaps compressor ground as well. 5/16-24. Edit: I may stand corrected here. Just noticed there are two holes at that location, one is not threaded. Perhaps that's for the retainer. Top engine side flange: Compressor to brackets. Again, my compressors seem to want a 5/16-18. Near bottom engine side flange: Front bracket to compressor. 5/16-24. Bottom passenger side flange: Compressor to bracket. 5/16-24. One long and two short.the longer one is used on the adjusting bar.Number 24 in the pic. You mean the top engine side flange location right? Yeah, that's the 5/16-18 culprit. Just noticed 24 is listed twice. Twice for the same thing? You can't see it on the image I provided, it's above 33. For the record, I'm fairly green reading this stuff. Other than that, if you insist the top engine side of the flange takes a 5/16-24 instead of 5/16-18, I'll see about "forcing" one on. Worse case scenario is I damage a compressor I'm not using anyhow. THANKS Mike

Just a note on the 5/16"x 24 bolts.
IF you happen to have a newer(as in "New"-Not rebuilt) A-6 compressor,The bolt holes may be metric. It's possible you have a used one that is metric. So,before you force a bolt in check the threads with a tap or metric bolt. Mike. |
