Need help Identifying this 350.
I have a 350 in my 72 3\4, and I need help decoding numbers on the rear of the block.

0010 usually means a 4 bolt main block.
The information that would be more revealing is actually on the front of the engine block, on a slanted/horizontal casting surface....just below the passenger side heads front surface. There is a surface there that should have a bunch of alphanumerics punched into it. These will tell you if the engine is for the truck and if not, what it came out...year, etc. Coley

3970010 casting number identifies as a 350...one of millions...no way to tell if it is 4 bolt main or 2 bolt main unless you pull the pan,,,
Seeing its in a 3/4 ton truck, it has a better chance of being 4 bolt main... if you can read the vin or engine numbers on the block, passenger side front surface next to head mounting face and post those numbers, you will get a better idea of what you have... Hope this helps... |

The 0010 IDs it as a 350, 2 or 4 bolt main. Like has been said, truck block, most likely 4bolt. The other numbers tell when it was made, right down to the day a shift that made it. You can research it online.

Yoiur engine number should be something like this
V0215TDJ THis is the engine number form my 1972 C10 with a 350 V.. Built Flint Michigan 02.. February 15..Day in February engine cast/built, not sure which TDJ..1972 350 175HP 4BBl You'll probably have to scrape lot of goop off to read the engine number.

3970010 is the most common 4" bore block GM ever made. That number does nothing to tell if it is a 2 or 4 bolt. However, pretty much ALL trucks with 350's have 4 bolt mains.
The stamped number off the front machined surface just below the passenger side head will determine where and when it was built and what it's intended use was. Gary

I could only make out the a few digits K04 couldn't read the next then 12, and nothing else was remotely readable.

Ive been doing some research of my own, according to Nastyz28.com I have a 1972 L65 165hp built in St, Catherine's Ontario, and it would of been in small gm cars. What do yall think? |

I see you got this pretty much figured out. Just thought I'd fill in the spaces.
12Y13b405 1 = Chevrolet 2 = 1972 Y = Wilmington assembly plant (Delaware) (passenger cars) 13b405 = 138405 = unique serial number K0410CKB K = St. Catherines, Ontario (McKinnon Industries Canada, engine plant) 04 = April 10 = 10th day (engine assembly date, April 10th) CKB = 350ci, 165hp, 2bbl, TH350 trans, RPO code L65, (Chevelle or Impala) In 1972 Chevelles had a starting number of 500001 at all Assembly plants. In 1972 Impalas had a starting number of 100001 at all Assembly plants. So your engine is from a Impala.

Very desirable block. Mains are full cast, no "thin" engineering like mid 76 and later crap.

Will probably pull it eventually, once I can afford to get something with a little more hp and a little more torgue. I wonder what someone restoring an Impala will pay for the block, Ill have to see if heads match
