466 Dark Olive/White Trucks

I am getting ready to paint my 72 with paint code 466. From what I can tell, this means two tone, 506 Dark Olive and 521 White. Anyone confirm? If you have ever painted your trucks using these colors, what brand is my best bet? Do I need to take a sample to a supplier or will they have what they need?

Would love to see some pictures of your 466 paint code trucks!

Re: 466 Dark Olive/White Trucks

Just a quick note in case any folks aren't aware - 466 is the deluxe two tone (white middle and top).

Most paint charts have major paint mfgr cross-ref numbers included, but also most paint mfgrs can mix to the GM code (521 is correct for the white, I'd have to check the dark olive).

Personally, I'd go by the GM paint code and not by a sample of your existing paint. Even if original paint, it's faded. If you end up color matching, recommend use an interior surface like the glove box door inside face where the SPID is.

Ha, actually It is good to see the right green color, is your original paint? Is that the 506 Olive? I guess what I am looking for is what is the proper color code for the olive, I think I have the only white used, but there were a couple of darker greens and 466 does not really clarify what colors are involved in the two-tone.

Re: 466 Dark Olive/White Trucks

My truck is 100% original paint. It's dark olive metallic. That's the only dark metallic green they offered. They have a dark green that's a solid color also. What does your spid say?

Re: 466 Dark Olive/White Trucks

No, I believe 506 is metallic, same paint as on Joe's truck. In other words, don't believe there is a dark olive 72 GM truck color that isn't metallic. You could get that metallic dark olive (also called dark olive poly) in 506 (solid) 564 (conv) and 466 (deluxe). There were other combos also, like my 72, 557, that combined dark olive poly with med olive poly (also known as "willow green"). 557 had the med olive on top (1st pic), 556 had the dark olive on the top (2nd pic). Anyway, all the "olives" were metallic (or poly, same thing, just a different term).

Here's our old workhorse, a Dark Olive and White GMC 910. Thing is I don't remember it being metallic... 1968.

Re: 466 Dark Olive/White Trucks

Funny, this is the color combo (466) that drew my attention to these trucks just shy of a zillion years ago. Guy I knew was building one, back then I didn't know all the terms, but it was loaded and had the wood grain trim and the wood grain inside. I guess it was a Super.

Such a nice paint combo.

Mine never had the wood grain on the inside but had the woodgrain trim on the outside.

Re: 466 Dark Olive/White Trucks

All of these are excellent examples of dark olive trucks. Mine has the original dark olive paint hiding in a few places. All variants of the olive schemes are some of the best looking colors on these trucks. Hard to beat hugger and white but it's real close. As usual Joes goldmine shows off again haha! Very nice truck!

Re: 466 Dark Olive/White Trucks

Hi,

Really enjoy this thread.

I have a code: 465 White & Medium Olive for my 1972 K10.

What does the 465 mean as opposed to 466?

Thank you.

Re: 466 Dark Olive/White Trucks

I love the "deluxe" white between the two sets of trim except I only have the lower trim.

I think my truck was originally white cab top with the rest medium olive.....but I would sure like a reason to go with the "deluxe" white like I mentioned earlier. I was hoping the code might confirm the actual application.
